Recall Headlight problem

Forum:

Hi I have just discovered a possible problem with my 1.0 1998 Sirion. When I switch on the headlights they work fine but thy won't switch off unless I switch of the ignition? so is there a relay that is faulty? or is it something else?

Thank you ) WinkWink

Just an update on the

Just an update on the headlight problem. As you know I changed the relay and it all seemed quite well and the headlights switched off, However I have been out tonight and needed to use my headlights for some time and when I got back I now have the same problem as before the only way to switch off the lights is to switch of the ignition so I'm now even more confused about them especially as I replaced the existing relay with a new one, I'm wondering if the fact the the cables to and from the relay are carrying more voltage and this may be overloading it? but that doesn't seem to make any sense to me. The replacement relay I'm using is a 30 amp which is the same as the original one fitted in the car so I don't think its because its underrated Unknw

Have you thought about

Have you thought about calling a local auto-electrician from the yellow pages. I would think your headlight issue would be a quick and easy fix for a expert.

Hi and thanks for your reply,

Hi and thanks for your reply, I have been trying to sort this out for days now with the help of Tony who has been an absolute star, and between us we haven't managed to find a fix? I have contacted an auto electrician and was very surprised at the their costs which were very high so at this point I don't intend to use their services however I have found a temp fix that will do for now until I can get to the bottom of the problem which if you speak to Tony he will tell you that its not an easy fix?

The first pic is how it was

The first pic is how it was all wired when I got the car, don't ask why it was done because I or the previous owner don't know. The previous owner spent over £200 trying to get it sorted and gave up.

This is what I have tried although it doesn't show I did have to add a separate switch in order to switch the lights on and off but the problem with this configuration is that for some reason the horn doesn't work? when the lights are on
