Sirion Steering Wheel modifications

Forum:

Just got myself a Sirion Rally 2....Great car but struggling with the non-adjusting steering wheel!!
Has anyone changed or adapted theirs?
I need more knee room and was looking to fit a Mono wheel but can't find the appropriate boss....any info would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Quite possible the wheel

Quite possible the wheel spline maybe the same as some Toyota's.

If it is then a boss kit should be fairly easy to find.

Obvoiusly you wont have airbag if you remove the factory wheel.

I guess you already have the seat adjusted in it's lowest position. Another option might be possible and not too hard to get the seat mounting frame legs cut down a little. Or something similar to make the seat lower.

The subframe brackets are

The subframe brackets are already short so there's no adjustment there.

You could be right about the Toyota....it' just knowing which one.

Fingers crossed someone knows a boss part number.

There's a wheel on eBay but it's from s 2001, another option would be to cut the centre hub section out and have a plate and Momo spacer welded to it. I could then space the wheel to suit my long legs. The old wheels from a 1.3sl so should have the same spline pattern?

How did you find that, I'm

How did you find that, I'm impressed!

Can I take it my car is a M101S and it comes under the M100 series?

Just need to know if my car has a straight or tapered column

That's a great site, will be saving up for the D-sport parts.

Cheers

It's a shame we never got the

It's a shame we never got the Storia X4, 4WD 770cc Turbo 125bhp (but up to 190bhp possible)

I know of 2 personal imports in the UK.

Changing the wheel won't make

Changing the wheel won't make it adjustable....
I guess you're around 6 feet or above...unlucky,I guess..
When I picked my father's sirion f-speed,I drove it down from Leeds to Southampton..bearable..just about.
When I drive the sirion, the bottom of the steering wheel is very close to my legs..yes,it does feel a bit cramped.
The YRV is probably better..although,again not an adjustable wheel as well.

I've got a Momo Fighter steering wheel in the garage,if you're interested???

I'm 6'3" and wanted to go for

I'm 6'3" and wanted to go for a smaller diameter wheel. I know I can not make the column adjustable but the combination of a smaller diameter and a spacer under the wheel must surely give me more leg room.
Thanks for the offer of the wheel but I'm going to hold fire on that until I know what shaft end is on on my column. Looks like there's 2 types, straight and tapered......does anyone know what the Rally/sL has?

I see on that website link i

I see on that website link i posted you can get sirion/storia seat frames in different height. Meant for aftermarket seats i guess.

Your right there is a

Your right there is a subframe that lowers the seats, £80 each plus shipping which I think would be expensive....plus 20% import duty etc. Then there's the seats and the problem of finding the correct ones to fit.
It a shame there's nowhere in the UK that sells them, probably down to the low quantities that would be sold.

Most bucket seats fit same,

Most bucket seats fit same, I've used Cobra, Momo and OMP over the years and they all shared the same dimension underneath for fitting.

I would think it would be cheap enough to get a new frame made up in the UK for the original seat. Roll cage fabricators normally do them, but any good engineer with a welder would do!

Especially easy if it fixed rather than sliding adjustable.

Sorry to dig this out again,

Sorry to dig this out again, you guys tell me the Sirion and Yaris share common parts. Whats the chance of the steering column splines being the same?

I ask because Rakuten have 2 wheel bosses for the storia on their site but both companies are not too helpful when it comes to shipping. I've been looking at a boss kit for the Yaris hoping there's a chance it'll fit.

I have a wheel now and just need a boss!
