Forum:
Hello O wise ones.
A problem has arisen with the main beam on my F75.
Background - Spots fitted with relay by one of the previous owners. When using main beam spots came on but NOT the normal main beam on standard lights. Dipped headlights worked as normal.
Current scenario
With ignition OFF all the lights work normally as described above.
Problem - With ignition on/engine running main beam/spots fail to come on and dipped beam turns off. Only side lights are left on. Same happens when using passing lever. Dipped beam and side lights work as normal.
However, with the lights turned off whilst engine is running the passing lever works and the spots come on!
Thanks in advance for any clues/solutions.
Dave
sounds to me like somebody
sounds to me like somebody used the wrong wire to the lights to work as the 'switch' to the relay, spotlight kits come with a wiring diagram, this item has been covered on this forum and youll also find it in google, you only need to have the spots wired to- mains battery-the spot lights-switch of some sort, think thats right. Doesnt matter the vehicle type, its all the same. But the only thing youll notice with spots on a ftrak- ign of spots and dip and side and full work as normal, ign on spot comes on with side lights, im not entirely sure why its because of there earthing system I think.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Main Beam Problem - F75
System used to work so I'm trying to work out what has gone wrong. To eliminate possible problems I have sourced a spare dim/dip relay and a new relay for the spots. Same problem exists whereby main beam/spots don't work with ignition on*.
*It works for the first operation of turning main beam on but not subsequent operations.
I have also noticed that the blue main beam light on the dashboard no longer works. I have taken instrument panel off and checked the bulb. All is good.
The relays down by the fuse box also seem to be in good working order.
My next question is why would the standard main beam not work? It never has so I'm wondering whether this control box is faulty. Does anyone know where the relay/control box is for the standard main beams?
Thanks....
Found the fault
The problem was with the prong/blades on the switchgear. I fixed one which was bent and was making permanent contact, I didn't see the prong next to it which wasn't making contact. All prongs/ blades are now making contact as intended and all is good. To save any future confusion I have now taken the spots off of the main beams and installed a separate switch on the dash.
