4-Trak battery problem?

Forum:

Hi all

I have a problem with our 4-Trak battery charging. We have three batteries, which if left for a few days connected up to the car, will discharge and not start the car when required. One is less than a year old and has been tested to be working OK, the other two are about 3 and 4 years old, both of these can be left on our other 4-Trak and do not discharge when left standing. All belts seem to be at their required settings, nothing is left on except the clock (in both cars). These batteries do not need recharging if its in the summer, but as soon as winter starts (we're in Scotland and had snow today) the cold temperature seems to take the batteries just over their ability to start the 4-Trak.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

well its quite simple really

well its quite simple really A: the battery is discharging when left off due to something running in the car, with engine of disconnect the negative terminal, connect a multimeter between neg pole and neg terminal and see what volts n amps are being drawn off it. B: the vehicle is not charging when in use, connect a multimeter to neg and pos and read the voltage when running, if its nothing above 12.5 v, you have a problem, simples.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

It could be an alternator

It could be an alternator fault manifesting itself, a starter motor problem, or simply a wiring fault.
