2005 Charade squeal/whistle at 60 mph

Forum:

Hello everyone,
We have had our blue Charade for only a week ! It's only done 55k and is a lovely little car.

However, we have noticed an intermittent squeal/whistle at 40-50mph and once the car reaches 60mph this becomes constant. Has anyone else experienced this Unknw Obviously I'm looking for ideas as to what this might be...

No warning lights appear, and the steering and feel of the car is unaffected.
There is definitely a constant squeal/whistle, though.

I would be most grateful for any advice etc.
Cheers
Nevil

Some Charades and Sirions are

Some Charades and Sirions are affected with alternators that start whining.

Both mine 2003 Charade and 2004 Sirion needed new alternators (replaced free under warrenty. But they were both driving school cars so they had a hard life!

Is it engine rev speed related or car speed movement?

Putting the car into neutral briefly while determine that

If its do do with the cars speed, maybe something to do with brake discs/calipers.

Try pressing the brake pedal to see if the noise goes when pressed.

Thank you Pocketrocket for your advice.

I did exactly as you said - at 60mph put car into neutral, and squeal was still there.
Apply brakes and it stops. Had my sons hanging their heads out the windows (must have looked like a small cattle truck!) to see if they could suss out where noise was coming from. Both said passenger side front.

We pulled over, and the front passenger side alloy wheel was very hot, I couldn't keep my hand on it.
Also, as we returned home when the squeal started (it's still intermittent) I noticed that with my right foot still on the accelerator, and pressing the brake pedal about an inch with my left foot, the noise stopped.
Not sure what that means...

Anyway, been in touch with car dealer bloke we bought from and it's being looked at tomorrow.
Once again, thanks for your help.
