'93 Applause Manual Gearbox replacement questions.

Forum:

Heya all!.
Just a quick question, this is my second Daihatsu Applause, My first was an auto, and with it I needed to have the gearbox replaced once (Auto's don't like me) The gearbox place that did it put in a Toyota Corolla Auto that was virtually identical to the original Daihatsu one.

Because Daihatsu pulled out of the Australian market years ago, parts are becoming hard to find.

Either way my new 93 manual with a recently rebuilt engine in it (7,000KM's done since rebuild) has just shat it's Manual gearbox, (Wont stay in 5th gear, jumps out repeatedly) (Turns out there was no fluid in it, and it was probably like that since the day I bought it)

Either way, am I right to assume that if the Auto has a matching corolla auto gearbox, then the Manual should also have a matching Corolla Manual gearbox? and if so, what model of Corolla?
- (So I can pick up a reco'd one and just drop it in with minimal effort)

Thanks!

Maybe, maybe not.But the

maybe, but probably not.

Toyota and Daihatsu of that era don't seem to share the same input shaft/clutch spline.

But the Applause engine is the same as Charade and bolts up to Charade 4 cylinder 1.3 and 1.6 engines.

May help finding one easier.

Ah Bugger. Still seems a

Ah Bugger.

Still seems a little odd that I know from personal experience the Auto can be swapped out with a Corolla Auto with no stuffing around, but not the manual Sad

Thanks, I will give DaiAuto in Melbourne a call today, see if they have any reco's.

Thanks.
