hi every1.

well hers my little problem with my 4trak 2.8D.
once apon a time the 10amp engine fuse blown.
so i got my manual out and traced problem to the voltage regulator.
so i replaced the voltage reg.
but it did not solve the problem.
so looking into it more replaced the alternator.
but never solved the problem.
so reading the wiring diagram very carefully i traced it to a wire that comes from the voltage regulator. in the manual they call it F its white and green. when this is disconnected the fuse does not blow.
but problem is when it is the battery does not get charged.
i have checked some of the wires but cant find anything.
now i am out of ideas and dont no what 2 try next.

PLEASE HELP ME I MISS MY 4TRAK.

charging problem

Not too familiar with 4trak , so just general comments. From what you have said it would seem that the 4trak has an external regulator. The F on an altenator is usually the field coil which supplies a current to the armature via slip rings and carbon brushes. If its blowing a 10 amp fuse then it has got to be a short in either the altenator field coil wiring or in the armature. The field coil should only draw an amp or so. I'd remove the altenator and get it checked.

Strange...

Looking at the schematics, that 10A fuse appears to feed:
1. Glow plug pre-heating timer electronics.
2. Fuel cut solenoid.
3. Voltage regulator IG input.

You say you've replaced both the voltage reg and alternator, and the problem still exists - have you made sure that you haven't muddled the connections between the volt reg and alternator? Especially the F and E connections?

You say the 10A fuse blows, unless the F (field wire) is disconnected, BUT then the alternator doesn't charge the battery (correct behaviour).

Are you implying that when the 10A fuse blows and the F wire is still connected, that the battery is being charged? I don't see how the battery can be charged in either case (blown 10A or disconnected F [field] connection) - the only feed to the alternator's rotor (field) winding is via the F connection.

I think you need check when exactly does the 10A fuse blow? It maybe due an issue with the glow plug electronics. Note that the glow plug electronics feed DOES NOT carry the glow plug power feed, which will be something like 50+Amps.

Sorry, don't have any more ideas at the mo...
