Forum:
Hello all,
I would like to replace the timing/injection belt on my 2.8 TD Rocky (Fourtrak) and am still confused about finding TDC. The manual says 'find TDC on the compression stroke...' and that is all. To find TDC on the compression stroke do I need to remove the cylinder head cover and check for inlet valve opening while the piston is at the top of its cycle?
If I am only just removing the belt and replacing it immediately, being careful not to move anything and marking all pulleys, is it really necessary to line everyting up to TDC?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers

Best way to find it is to pull off your rocker cover and rotate crank until inlet and exhaust valves are closed i.e you can move rockers by hand
'BELT UP'
Thanks Mac, I appreciate the feedback.
If I don't move anything when removing the belt and mark their position on the engine, is it completely necessary to find TDC anyway? If I just pull the belt off and slip a new one straight back on?
Is there anything that I need to take note of when replacing the belt or any little tricks I should know?
Cheers
