Looking at the wiring diagram, a 10A fuse supplied from the IGN switch feeds the fuel solenoid, glow plug pre-heating timer circuit and the alternator voltage regulator - so the fault could exist anywhere on that circuit.
You could rule out the fuel solenoid by disconnecting the feed and hooking it up to +12v (via a fuse!) and seeing if that blows.
My guess is it's more likely to be the alternator regulator circuit.
thanks for all that info,problem solved :)!not sure how though it seemed to have cured itself whilst being towed upto the forestry shed when the exhaust fell off and wrapped itself around the axle like a tuning fork heee ahhhh, many thanks
