FEROZA Head issues.

Forum:

A boiling HD-E engine resulted in a new water pump fitted by the owner and assistant!!!
Restart (of a sort) prompted a loss of water to the sump.
I was called in to removed the head and found corosion of the block adjacent to the oil pressure feed to the head. A "bodge it and scarper" repair was directed by the owner (metal mend and a file, new head gasket).

I assume that this engine was run for years without anti-freeze/corosion inhibitor.

Would someone confirm the cam belt timing marks for this HD-E 16 valve engine before I re-assemble please.

Oh! My parts supplier says there are no head gaskets available in Spain and the price if they were is 37€. I have one on the way from the UK for £14 plus post of £9 = £23 = 26€ and they guarantee delivery before Christmas!!!

On these engines its not

On these engines its not uncommon for internal corrosion in the head to erode it to the point where it develops internal cracks where an internal bracing piece is cast into it. Once this wears the cracks form internally and cannot be seen, this usually happens when no anti-freeze is used and they corrode terribly and people assume its the head gasket when it isn't.

Point taken assassin. Having

Point taken assassin. Having scoured the head and the block, I settled for the obvious on the block. Anyways, as the owner paid less that 500€ for it he doesen't want any further big investment, so a new headgasket and test will do for now. If it's any more or gives grief in the future, recycle it and send it to China for it to return as a Chinese Honda copy!

does noone know

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

I would suggest having the head pressure tested first as this is a known problem. From here you have the information before shelling out money you may or may not need to.
