When i use my indicators the hazards come on

Forum:

Please can anyone help.

I towed a trailer and there was a problem with the elec's, so a few fuses burnt out.
I've replaced the fuses and replaced the flasher relay unit however i still have the problem.

When i use the indicators they flash once or twice then they both flash just as if i'd put the hazards on.

So now i just don't know what to try next.

Relay

The new flasher relay could be faulty. Try the relay in another vehicle to test it.

today tested the new flasher unit and its working just fine.

So i still have a problem, any 1 anymore idea's...I'm thinking maybe hazard switch ??,

hazards/ winkers

Towing a trailer shouldn't blow fuses, someone has made a mess of the wiring somewhere ( most likely on the trailer) and some wires have been shorted, which has resulted in the fuses blowing. I think its likely that some insulation on the wiring has melted which has allowed the wires to contact each other allowing all the lights to be on all at once. start at the winker unit and work back, towards the trailer socket. Good luck.

Tow plug.

Go with Steve's suggestion and check back from the winker.
When done download a diagram of the correct pin connections for your trailer's plug. Perhaps someone has incorrrectly fixed the white cable which supplies 12v continuous for caravan fridges etc. I assume you use a new international single plug rather than the twin UK plugs.

joe's flashers problem

Cheers Mace,

I'm going to have a go at steve's suggestion, my god what a job but at least i'll know where to start,

Oh and i'm not going to be using that bloody trailer again, thats for sure.
Thanks again,

joe's flashers problem

Hey thanku Steve for your input.

I can see why you said good luck cus my god thats not an easy task is it. Not to think of all the wires wrapped in plastic sleeves as well.

Watch this space, i'll let u know how i get on,

thanks again,

Joe

before you strip out the wiring harness

Before you strip out the wiring harness check and see if there are any plugs that you can undo to isolate parts of the wiring harness. If you can isolate which section of the harness is the melted part you can just undo ( or replace )that part. I mean it could be in the trailer socket. I think I'd start by undoing the trailer socket and seeing if theres continuity between the yellow and the green ( the 2 winker feeds). The trailer socket harness goes up the left hand side of the vehicle along the chassis.
