I have a 95 Sportrak. Bought it for winter as BMW was useless and I love it. Am completely converted to Daihatsu. I have a random gearbox problem. It was very difficult to engage 1st and shift to 2nd when cold. I had the gear oil changed and it is slightly better. When the car warms up, it is spot on. It has now however started to jam in gear ( completely randomly ) If the car is in neutral when this occurs, it wont engage gear and if i try reverse, it will grind.After a bit of messing about with pumping the pedal etc, the car carries on. The fault is almost as though I wasn't depressing the clutch. I Have checked the clutch adjustment and cable and I think these are ok. The clutch itself does not slip.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I think my previous reply made no sense.
I think it does disengage.
It feels a little strange. I would describe it like needing to be bled if the car had a hydraulic clutch or in this case, the cable fitted badly.
It seems strange that it returns to normal though.
Appologies for the vague answer, I have a little technical ability but not loads.

Problem sorted
I bought a new clutch kit from Milner and had it fitted. The clutch and gearbox are now feeling much better and the problem has gone. The old clutch was fairly worn ( but not done ).
Thanks for the help as some of the comments got me thinking.

goodo, must of been getting to the end of its life then, did you see new top gear the other day and what richard hamster done to his nobel clutch.....it was quite funny.

When the fault happens the clutch feels a bit strange when I press it like its not pressed fully ( not sure correct term )
Release plate.
Sound like the release plate has a few springs broken. The clutch plate will not release so you cannot change gear.
ive had the springs pop out
ive had the springs pop out of a clutch plate before and jam it, after that happens ....it aint going anywhere except towed or pushed.
