1998 sirion 1.0 auto, the airbag light to the left on the dash does not go out (mot failure this year). Its been like it for the last 4 years, if I stop and start the engine three times this light goes out and stays out if then left for a couple of hours and then started the light will stay on, switch it of and repeat starting 3 times again the light stays of, anybody had this problem could this be electrical fault or can this be reset.I would be grateful for any ideas Regards.
Airbag Alert Light
Percy538,
If the warning is just spurious (and it may be), resetting the ecu (which dumps all the trouble codes) could make this go away. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose so give it a go.
Disconnect the battery at both terminals and then touch each battery lead to each other to discharge the systems - there won't be a blinding flash and indeed you won't even see anything because we are dealing in minute currents. I just did this to my Sirion recently for other reasons and it is quite safe. Reconnect the battery and then just operate the car as normal.
If the warning comes back you will have lost nothing, but you will be in a world of pain when it comes to MOT time. Sorry. I do genuinely feel for you.
Regards
sometimes the issue is linked
sometimes the issue is linked to seat belt potentiometer creating a fault in airbag deployment.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
