hi do you know how much petrol your tank holds. cos i have been trying to callibrate my gauge but dare not fill tank up cos it had a leak before so not sure what gauge should read when only partialy full.
i think i am returning about 35 to gallon but not sure.
cheers fred
Mock me as well if you like but I've been recording mpg for a few months in my Sporty and am definitely getting around 35mpg. At least 80% of this is done at 50-55mph continuous speeds though.
if you READ what i said (I THINKI AM RETURNING 35 MPG) CANT WORK IT OUT CORRECTLY COS I CANT FILL MY TANK TO BRIM. SO WHY DONT YOU TELL ME HOW MUCH A SPORTRAK TANK HOLDS LIKE I ASKED INSTEAD OF MAKING CLEVER COMMENTS.
FRED
if you want to take the time to accurately work it out you should drain your tank with the bung underneath and just put in a known amount, trip the mileometer, carry spare fuel in a can with you and hey presto when you conk out, mileage and fuel used is known.
for a 1.6 petrol Sportrak your looking for around 23 but may reach 26 at best, we took our '91 Sportrak on a long journey on the motorway once and we got 68 mpg or about 650 miles out of a full tank (standard 60 litre tank) but that doesn't really matter unless you do a number of long journeys every week (which we don't, we do about 10 miles a day)
cheers for that info mate. what it is i had a petrol leak and when i dropped tank to repair it (didnt take it out completely) my fuel gauge didnt work so i worked it back eventualy to be the gauge and fitted a seperate one but it needs callibrating so i can tell how much fuel is actualy in tank.
i am same as you only do around 1000 mls a yr max most of it pulling a jetski. but it seems pretty good on fuel compared to my last car (a swb 2.8 diesel pajero)
mine makes a hiss when removing cap but not much i think most do especialy when near empty.
anyway thanks again for info and hope you find your problem (if any) fred
ok, so you have no fuel leak, are you basing your mileage on what the fuel gauge reads? or are u running out of fuel, how much fuel can you top back up with? is your sporty a pre 93 carb model then?
as long as you can fill it up to the brim then the esiest way to check is to fill it up check your milage do around 50/60 mls then fill to brim again check usage againt milage.
i would have done that but darnt fill to brim.
fred
We got 150 miles out of the last full tank but this time when we ran out it has risen to 250 miles! it has recently had 4 new tyres 2 weeks ago but before we had the new tyres fitted we got 220 miles out of it
So a recap... it has done 220 miles on a full tank, then 150 miles (on a full tank)and now 250 (on a full tank)... weird
if tank holds 60ltrs = 11.75 galls@ 5.1 lts to gallon.
then 150 mls is 12.75 mpg
220 mls is 18.8 mpg
250 mls is 21.3 mpg
so even at 250 mls per tank its still not a lot
i am gona have to check mine properly cos if its only gona do 22mpg then its gona be gone. will keep you updated if i can sort something out.
i was for some reason under the impresion that most cars held enough petrol to travel about 300 mls (hence big cars have big tanks small cars have small tanks)
300 mls would equate to just over 25mpg which is not to bad. (not good ) (but not bad)
petrol tank (its getting worse)

Guinness Book Of Records
If you get average of 35mpg then get it certified and entered into the Guinness Book Of Records.
too right
a 1.6 petrol 4x4 .......more like 25 mpg at best....

its an EFI fuel
its a '91 EFI fuel injection
when we fill up we can get 55ish litres in it so there's about 5 litres left
we were gonna put a fuel can in the back and drive it until it ran out completely but we haven't got to it yet

"5.1 lts to gallon"
"if tank holds 60ltrs = 11.75 galls@ 5.1 lts to gallon.
", isn't that a US gallon?
60 litres is about 13.2 international standard gallons - make the mpg even worse though
ltrs per gallon
whoooops i was thinking 5ltr = 1.1 gallons got it mixed and said 1gall=5.1 lts
alsymerse has clicked in (SORRY EVERYBODY)
its 4.54 litres to one
its 4.54 litres to one imperial gallon
