Drilling holes necessary?

Forum:

I've finally got round to fitting an extra set of rear lights to my sporty. I have managed to locate an entrance for wires in the form of a rubber ring below the off side rear pillar. However I'm finding it difficult enough getting one wire through let alone the 6 wires! (I can't find an entrance on the other side)

The car all ready has its fair share of rust so I am reluctant to introduce another opportunity for it by drilling holes but I'm beginning to think it might be necessary. I know a fair few people have fitted these lights, did you go through the rubber rings or if drilling is necessary what's the best method of sealing the hole?

I've also managed to disable the reversing light when trying to establish which wire leading to it goes to earth. I can only think I accidentally shorted the circuit and took out the fuse. Anybody know if the reverse light is on the TAIL fuse in the fuse box under the dash or a separate one?

Thanks in advance for any help to either question.

Very simple, I just drill a 20mm hole, paint all the exposed steel with good paint, fit a sleeved grommet of 20mm diameter and smear the grommet ring with a little grease.

Make your wiring loom, pass it through the grommet, fill the sleeve of the grommet with silicone sealer, hey presto, one rustproof hole with a sealed wiring loom.

DRILLING HOLES

I FITTED A SET TO MINE AND ALL I DID WAS CUT THE EXISTING GROMET MADE THE HOLE IN THE GROMET BIGGER AND REFITTED BACK INTO SAME HOLE SLIDING THE CUT PART AROUND THE WIRES. THEN LIKE OTHER GUY SAYS MAKE SURE ITS WATERTIGHT BY USING SILLICONE TO SEAL IN PLACE.

Many thanks to both of you

Many thanks to both of you for that information, not just the technique but the material termonolgy too.
