Off road upgrades (sportrak

Forum:

Hello everyone,

I have broken my sporty again Sad

The rear shock has started leaking quite badly and one of the bushes from the front anti-roll bar has gone (IE its not there anymore)

So, I was thinking of ordering the Pro Comp shocks for the rear and removing the anti-roll bar all together.

Is it advisable to fit the extended shackles at the same time as the shocks? And also if i raise the front torsion bars to match the lift on the rear, Am i going to need the front extended shocks or will the fronts be OK for a bit?

Has anyone had any experience with the pro Comp shocks and shackles on a sporty? I am going to assume that they wont work with the adjustable damper switch on the dash?
It says on the Bloodred website that it is advisable to fit extended brake lines, Where do I get these from?

Anything else i can do while I am there to maximize off road capability?

But on a lighter note the leaf springs are fixed Smile

Sorry for the essay and thanks for taking the time to read it Smile

Cheers all

Regards

Dean

EDIT: Will it be OK to drive to work and back on a leaky shock whilst I source a new one?

Cheers

gave dave a ring(bloodred) as

gave dave a ring(bloodred) as he has the shackles/brake lines and shocks you will need.
well that is if you want to lift it,if you do then yea get all 3 above,as for the front longer shocks wont make any difference as the front end wont get any more movement than it has now due to the design of the set up even if you wind the torsion bars up,if it still has the standard shocks fitted it will be worth getting new as yours will be old and tyred now and not working at there best.

you may get away with longer rear shock without lifting it but you need to find out the closed length of them then see if they will fit when the truck is on full bump as you dont want to use the shocks as the bump stops.

and no the dash switch wont work with them as they are not adjustable.

if dave has not got the brake lines(im sure he has) ring dave at llama4x4 as he can make any brake line in any length and almost any color you want

Thanks for that mate I

Thanks for that mate I appreciate it.

So the front shocks Dont get more travel? so Are the front pro comp ones not any longer than standard?

I ask because I Dont want to buy some new standard shocks and them break when I show them a bit of rough terrain, My mentality being if it breaks.... Get a better one Smile

And Im only going to need extended rear brake hoses then as the front has no extra travel?

Sorry for all the questions and new to the world of 4X4 Blush

Thanks for all the help so far, It is appreciated.

Dean

cos theres better websites

cos theres better websites actually dedicated to proper modded vehicles, whereas this is more of a 'genuine vehicle' style website and cos these vehicles are so old its all been done n dusted so there wont be many replys or answers, try difflock.com...youll find us on there

just leave the front shock on

just leave the front shock on there unless they are weak, procomp ones should be the same size as you cant get anymore travel out of the front end.
yea you will just need the rear brake hose.

sportrak upgrades

hi deano
what offroading do you do? ive got a sprotrak which i do trails with and does well up against the regular suzukis in the class as theres more mods able to buy of the shelf!!!!!

i would advise you get the pro comp shocks well worth it i had them already fitted when i bought the sportrak ( nicknamed shitrak )

dont touch the the front suspension and dont bother with bigger shackles on the rear if possible the only mods id advise is 16 inch rims off a vitara or mod landrover rims which will give you better ground clearance
diff locker but you will require changing the rear axle for a vitara/sj
also if you still got the front standard shocks on leave the setting on soft cause you need all the articulation needed

shitrak off roader

16s fit without lift?

What tyres do you have on the 16" wheels? And do they fit fine with no modification? Thanks

16s

at the mow ive got standard vitara 16 inch rims with 6.50 x 16 dumper tyres although these are narrow they do give good clerance the only issue was the n/s/f rubs the chassis thats because the steering stops have been removed and slight steering damage
but the best way foward what a lot of people have done in the club is cut out suzuki /daihatsu centers and weld them on to land rover rims and use 7.50x16 which will be wider and taller and you can make them then a deeper dish which will in turn help stablity as i found the narrow track on a sportrak dosent like steep banks going side ways!

so if you fit a diff lock

so if you fit a diff lock /rear axle of a suzuki how do you alter the diff ratio in the front so you dont get transmission wind up in the gearbox??

diff lock

when off roading this aint gonna be much of a problem as the wheels will be aloud to slep and the ratios aint that different as daihatsu and suzuki are quit simailar any way!

shitrak off roader

lol

bodgit and scarper...love it, no good for a vehicle used for the road though if your wanting to run engaged hubs.

lol

good way to burn fuel by leaving the front hubs in!!!!!!
thats why i asked the question what sort of off roading do you do cause otherwise if it just standard green laneing or bit of fun just good tyres
if doing compations then you need serious mods within the confines of the class!!
so what would you advise ???

shitrak off roader

nooo I mean

if your driving about on the road in dodgey wintery conditions and you want to knock in the 4h from time to time, there wont be that much wheel slip, its only really a mod you want to doo on a full off roader, otherwise its tyres, tyres , tyres and a body lift so that you can fit a 31-10.5/15 tyre or the like, cos I agree, fiddling with crappy ifs torsion bars = no articulation, but the sportrak is quite light so it does bounce along quite happily.
