Noise TERIOS 1.3 1999

Forum:

Hi , I have just bought a 1999 Terios 1.3 in good nick 80K genuine miles. At around 50 - 60 mph the car becomes noisy. Some say its tyres or wheel bearings or just a noisy engine, has anyone come across this, before I waste money. Come on someone must know !!!

Hmmm!

When trying to diagnose a vehicle noise problem you need to bear a few things in mind - some rather obvious.

Try to identify the source position of the noise....front, rear, central, left, right. If a noise sounds as if it's coming from the left rear, that's probably its source. Wheel bearing and tyre noise fit well into this type of diagnosis and should be easy to pin down.

Low frequency noise tends to be omni-directional - sounds as if it's coming from everywhere. The higher the noise frequency the more directional it becomes, so easier to determine the source.

It's easy to determine engine noise. Get up to the speed at which the noise reaches the level of which you complain and flip the gearbox into neutral and let the engine idle as you speed along. Daihatsu engines are not noted for quietness!

This advice should give you a starting direction.
