when i put my foot down its going well, as normal, but all of a sudden, while i have the foot to the floor, going uphill usually, it boggs down and i will struggle to get 15 mph out of it. also it will over heat in this mode and it can last from a mile to 5 miles of being extremely slow, then it will snapp out of it and be back to normal untill i climb a hill or try hitting 60mph. ive checked the oil and water, all is good. ive checked both filters, the cone shaped filter at the back of the pump was collecting dirt, but its not solved the problem. anyone had the same problem or might know the reason for this? many thanks.
Vacuum
Hi Taffi,
Wow - nasty one to find I reckon.
This is a long shot but, I did have a similar problem on a Metro turbo many years back. Turned out to be the vacuum tube connected to the distributor affecting the ignition timing at random. While you're at it check the vacuum tube that goes to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail too.
Also, mate had similar symptoms on his Disco. The air intake tubes on that had a sort of liner inside which had separated from the structure of the tube and under heavy throttle it collapsed in on itself severely restricting air to the engine. Dunno if the Sporty has similar tubes - just thinking out loud really. But might be helpful.
Lemme know how you get on.

I had what sounds to be the same problem a few years ago with my Sporty. Had a garage spend days cleaning out the carb. (Somebody had replaced the injection system with a carb.) I solved it myself (it appears so) by simply changing the front end fuel filter situated inside the engine bay.
Have you been driving about a lot with a near empty tank?
It could be something as simple as cr*p getting into the system, until it’s removed….
