Offroad tips

Forum:

Just got myself C reg SWB fourtrack purely for offroading. Don't want to spend stupid amounts of money on it but would like to improve its offroading performance. Can anybody give me tips/ suggestions that won't dent the bank balance UnknwHelp

Re: Offroad Tips

Purely for offroading?

First suggestion: bigger tyres... it's the only thing that will increase your ground clearance (in other words lifting your diff). Of course you may have trouble if you want to go to 32"s but then it's just a matter of grinding the guards and bumper away to make them fit (or getting a bodylift and/or suspension lift which may dent the bank balance!)...

Other thing to do is weld the rear diff. I have seen many Suzuki Samurais/Sierras with welded diffs being used as daily drivers without a glitch. Offroad the difference is phenomenal!

Bigger tyres and a welded rear diff should do you fine, but the further you get offroad, the further you want to go so ultimately you'll want lower gearing, at least 34"s and some more suspension lift Smile

Hope that helps!

Get a second hand break lever

Get a second hand break lever. Conect one hand break cable to it, leaving the other conected to the original hand break lever. Hey presto, fidle breaks. Remember not to try fidles, and a locked diff on the same axle.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
