Charade/Applause engine conversion HELP....

Forum:

Hi Guys,

I'm new here. I'm all the way Down under in Australia. I posted on a local forum but its been a week and didn't get a reply yet...
Anyway, I normally play with Subaru's but i'm doing a conversion on my girlfriends car. She had a g202, 1litre carby for about 2 years and loved the car but then crashed it..., so i tried and tired to get her to swap to a suby but she only wanted her little charade. So i got her a 98 'smily face' Charade, 2dr, 1.3 injected but it had a blown head gasket and a really badly leaking bottom crank seal, Only paid $250 for it, so dropped some chemi-weld in it and thiker oil and stop oil additive. Held ok for 4months but she always ran the car very very low on oil with the oil light coming on in every turn until one day on the freeway, KALAKALAKALA and something gave way and the engine sized. LOL. Ok so thats the history.

Now, I found a 96, 1.6 Applause engine thats got 225-230psi on all 4 but has started a head gasket leak. tested with a TK tester.
So the plan is to get the head recon, machined, maybe shave about 1/2 a mm off to get a little extra oumphfff Smile
Planning to use only the applause long motor and bolt the , charade manifold's and gearbox on so all the plugs match etc. Don't really want to get involved in the electrical, ECU, wiring side of things...

My question are:
1, What clutch flywheel combination must i use? all from the charade or all from the applause or a combination?

2, What injector must i use? I'll bolt the 1.3 charade manifold to the 1.6 block so the plugs and sensors match the car loom, but should i keep the 1.3 injectors or swap to the 1.6? are they interchangeable?

3, Would getting extractors benefit me? Anyone got one?

4, What dizzy must i use? can i swap that around so the plugs match or must i stick to the applause one?

Hope you guys can help, Would be much appreciated.
Also feel free to post link of similar conversion so i can have a read, haven't had much luck finding them yet.
Will post pics soon.

Thx
Guy

Charade and applause are not

Charade and applause are not popular enough here for many people to even know what you are talking about, lol.

Although I have helped a friend (James Macey) fit a 1.6 Detomaso engine into a 1.3
The only one I know of in UK.

The engine went it and connected up to everything, I think just a few sensor connectors had different plugs which he had to solder on from the 1.6. But that was about it

1.3i ecu was kept as I understand gives more timing advance than the 1.6 ECU.

Use the 1.6 injectors

Use the applause clutch/flywheel as the cover has a slightly stronger diaphrgam.

If you contact Jim on facebook, I'm sure he can tell you more.
