Just bought a JDM YRV 4WD Turbo...

Forum:

Clearly, I've missed boost, as despite not needing another car, I've just picked up a year 2000 JDM YRV 4WD turbo... I suppose it helped that I picked it up for a good price, and that the car was imported by a Kiwi who was living in Japan at the time, and has owned it ever since (2007). Regular oil changes every 6,000 kms helped the cause too, as did the underside which is as clean as a nuns conscience.

It has an Apexi backbox and an Apexi induction kit, plus voltage stabilising leads and a mystery box in the engine bay (I've had plenty of mystery boxes on my imports, I'll work out what it does eventually)... Also has genuine side window wind deflectors, mat set, wee little 14" aftermarket alloys, a remote starting alarm, and the usual double-din stereo that looks like it's been developed by NASA.

It's in desperate need of a clean, so when she's shiny, I'll bang up a few piccies... Can I resist adding the set of Tanabe coilovers I've just found for it? Hhhmmm... Wink

Piccies...

By weird coincidence, I can post photos of my new car in minty clean condition without doing anything... Just check out Page 21 in the Image Galleries/Cars, and there she is, all fresh off the boat from the Kiwi who imported her!

I've just had an amusing read through a post about the car, and two things stood out, the car doesn't have a BOV (it's just induction and wastegate noise), and the alloys are 14" not 15". Other than that, that's what she'll look like when I clean her to within an inch of her life!

Small world isn't it? Wink

Yep, that's her! Nice to see what's underneath the dirt. Took me half a day just to clean the interior (stage one that is), the exterior's going to take much longer... There's all manner of brown and green colours that have attached themselves to the paintwork...

As for the Apexi filter, you might not like them, but I do Mr B... As long as they're cleaned and maintained, they provide appropriate levels of filtration, and certainly allow the engine to breath better. In all the cars I've had, especially forced-induction as opposed to naturally aspirated, I've followed the principal that the better the breathing, and the faster the gasses are expelled, the better it is for the engine. I may one day upgrade the Daihatsu/Apexi exhaust combo, but it's fine for now.

The filter does need a good clean though...

word of advice

if you haven't already, change the coolant... and use genuine Toyota Long Life Coolant (RED) with distilled water. beautiful car.
