A quick flick round google

A quick flick round google came up with someone who'd done similar, below is the paragraph explaining how he got his certificate...may cost you...

The first stop after the prefecture was the local Volkswagen dealer, where I asked for advice as to how to obtain a certificate of conformity. They were able to give me the address of Volkswagen France to whom I duly wrote in my best French, asking how I should go about obtaining said certificate. They wrote back, explaining that as the vehicle was originally registered in the UK, it would be necessary to write to Volkswagen UK. I therefore wrote another letter, but this time in English, and in due course, I received a reply explaining that I needed to pay a fee and provide some details about the vehicle. This was done, and I subsequently received the certificate of conformity, which is a lengthy technical document containing all of the specifications of the vehicle; weights, gear ratios, emissions, and so on - showing that it fully complies with European standards.

Hope that helps.

Sportrak and France.

I have just returned from 10 years in France and took a 1991 to France and re registered it. I couldn't get a Letter of Conformity and it took 11 Months to get the new registration and an inspection by the DRIRE at Laval. If you are still having problems then I will see if I still have any documents related to this up hill struggle. Oddly I brought a 2nd Sporty, a 1996 Anjou and sent the Prefecture Photo's of my 1991 and copies of the documents and carte gris and the new reg came through within a week. Sadly the 1996 was crap compared to my 1991 and I sold it on in France but my old faithful is now back in the UK on its original plate and going strong.
