Advice re: places to look to buy a Charade!

Forum:

Good morning,

I'm on the lookout for a Charade having got myself a new job which is going to involve doing a lot of mileage - the difference between the MPG on my YRV and the Charade will make filling up every week a little less painful (as well as the £100 a year less tax)!

I'm hoping I can pass the YRV over to my partner and sell her Yaris... although I might have a fight on my hands there Wink

I was just wondering whether anyone has any recommendations on places I could look for a Charade - there aren't many about for sale and so any extra places to try would be much appreciated. I've done ebay / autotrader / exhange and mart / motors.co.uk / britolusedcarsearch.com / gumtree / adtrader.

I'm looking for something low mileage and sub-£2000 preferably, and I'm in South Wales although it's likely I'd have to travel if I want to be in any way picky about what I buy! Smile

Thanks

Have you thought about the

Have you thought about the Perodua Kelisa.

You can get Mint condition very low mileage ones for £1200-1500.

And its the exact same car as the Cuore, With the later DVVT engine.

Having owned both a Cuore and the newer Charade (Which is the successor and still called a Cuore in most other countries)

The Cuore is a more fun and a better drivers car, The Charade is more refined but is a little let down in my opinion by the very soft floaty suspension and overlight steering. And a notchy feeling gearchange for some odd reason.

Hadn't thought about the

Hadn't thought about the Perouda - thanks for that. I noticed the notchy gear change when I tried out a charade before buying the YRV - but I've only driven one so I didn't realise it wasn't just a dodgy car!

The Kelisa is rated at 55mpg against the Charade's 58mpg... so not far off. The Kelisa is £100 tax compared to £30 on the Charade though. Hmm. Something to think about definitely.

Having a quick look on autotrader there aren't many kelisas around either - but if I am looking for both then it increases the cars available to me anyway Smile

Also try keeping a lookout on

Also try keeping a lookout on www.pistonheads.com as well. A few Daihatsu's come up for sale on there. At the moment only 3 for sale including a Charade GTTi, I.e the original and best Wink
There has been the odd new 2003-2006 Charade cars for sale. You do know the newer Charade is only a 1.0Litre?

Just had a look on www.parkers.co.uk and a couple for sale at around £2K;

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/for-sale/search/used/daihatsu/charade/hatchback-2003/_/sort/lowest/rpp/20/page/1/

Also a new 2005-2010 Sirion 1.0litre is also a £30 a year tax?

Thanks for that - not thought

Thanks for that - not thought about looking there as I'd expect most of the stuff to be performance cars. I am aware it's a 1.0... In fact, I've probably driven 1 litre cars for most of the miles I've done in my life so far, so I'm fully aware of the limitations in performance! I like cars with a bit of character, and usually extremely frugal (that's my half-scottish-ness coming out).

Thanks for the parker's link - had forgotten about there. Luckily I've got until the beginning of October until I start my new job, so plenty of time for going here there and everywhere to find one!

EDIT: Didn't notice the Sirion 1.0l comment - didn't realise they were even available, thought they were only 1.3! If I got a bargain on one the sirion would suit me right down to the ground, I think Smile

Best to avoid a 1.0 Sirion.

Best to avoid a 1.0 Sirion. Only the early Sirions came in a 1.0. They are the exact same engine as the Cuore but over 100kg heavier, and performance/fuel economy does suffer much more.

The Cuore/Kelisa/newer Charades 1.0 actually go quite well, due to the low weight.

Equivilant power/weight ratio to 1.2/1.3's in other brands such as Vauxhauls/ Citroen etc

I have more fun running about in my little Cuore, than I do in the YRV Turbo!

Love the sound of the 3 cylinder, proper Daihatsu.

I made the mistake of missing

I missed this few weeks ago, 7000 miles from new!

However, Mine was only £550 with 10 months MOT and 8 months tax, 52,000 miles

A little older at 1999 T reg

They really are stunning bargains for basic motoring.

Get 50mpg easy even in towns, 60mpg on a steady run.

Wow - loads of discussion

Wow - loads of discussion sparked! Thanks for all your input. I still quite fancy the charade as I'm guessing it's nippier than the 1.0 Sirion, and will likely be a lot cheaper. I will probably be on the lookout for a while if anyone happens to spot a bargain Wink

Plenty on Autotrader at the

Plenty on Autotrader at the moment. Looking at the specs on parkers.co.uk, the SL appears to be the one to go for Smile

Yep, ideally a low mileage SL

Yep, ideally a low mileage SL at a fair price is what I'm after. Parkers value a 07 plate charade with 50,000 miles on the clock at £2500 from a franchised dealer. You would have thought looking at that that there would be a good chance of getting a nice low mileage one further down the years for well under £2000... just a matter of biding my time for the right one, I am guessing! Smile

The '62' Plate new cars come

The '62' Plate new cars come out in a couple of days, so technically any older car would de-value because of this. So you maybe in luck Smile

The new shape 2005-2010 sirion can be bought in 1.0 litre

The new shape sirion can be bought in three engine variants:
1.0, 1.3 and 1.5 litres.

According to the parkers websites facts and figures the 1.0 litre top spec trim is the SE+

Only downside is that the insurance group might be higher.
Still group C tax (£30) and acclaimed 56mpg.

Yeah not my cup of tea. I

Yeah not my cup of tea. I just don't like the the styling of them. Every Daihatsu since the YRV/Sirion Mk1 has too much Toyota influence.

The Cuore L701 was my preferance as it's a really popular "JDM" kei car at the moment in Japan for styling mods.
