Stripping down F78 TDX Indy front hubs...a guide please!

Forum:

Hi All,

Does anyone have a step by step guide, or advice on stripping down the Indy's front hubs? I have play in the front nearside bearing and need to adjust it or replace it before this years MOT, I may well change the front brake discs too if the entire hub needs removing.
Also, what size socket is the hub nut?

Any help is most appreciated!

Cheers!

Begin by removing the wheel

Begin by removing the wheel and freewheeling hub, undo the hub by undoing the six studs with an allen key.

Undo the bits of the hub attached to the centre of the hub by using allen keys and take a picture of how they fit.

Undo the locking bolt in the front hub nut on the end of the driveshaft 30mm from memory, and remove the nut.

Go under the vehicle and look at the inner end of the driveshaft, you will see a drive flange which the driveshaft bolts to, undo the four nuts and bolts holding it, and slide the driveshaft our of the hub assembly. The bearing is a taper bearing so the outer will drop off and you can punch the inner race out from under the vehicle, then pull the seal out.

Refit the seal, inner race of the bearing, driveshaft, outer race, nut and adjust, and the freewheeling hub.

About 20 minutes a side to do.

To adjust it you strip off

To adjust it you strip off the freewheeling hub to the driveshaft nut, adjust the nut until the play is taken out and refit the freewheeling hub.

You don't even need to take the wheel off to adjust it.
