YRV Turbo Idle

Forum:

My car battles to start sometimes...the starter swings it and then I give it a little gas it takes. It seems to idle lower than it used to and sometimes dies going around corners or at traffic lights. I do how ever have the timing chain rattle or tensioner issue so not sure it can cause this as well?

What must I check?
1. Idle control valve - where is it?
2. Fuel pressure
3. the filter in the fuel tank?
4. What else?

I would check the MAP sensor

I would check the MAP sensor and connector as well. Connector is located under the intercooler. Sensor is under the engine cover.
As for the fuel pump it's in the actual tank itself I'm afraid Sad
I know this has come up in the passed but also worth looking a the crank position sensor as well.
As for the starting issue, both mine and DaihatsuDaves cars have been getting weird starting issues first time when the engine is cold. On mine it's fine in warmer weathers, on Daves it's the opposite.
I can only put it down to a sensor which maybe faulting.

Check the...

Plugs 1st, then investigate the fuel filter (hassle, but might be worth it). It won't be the idle control valve in my opinion...

Disagree, Worn plugs don't

Disagree, Worn plugs don't cause idle speed probs.

Nor would a bit less fuel.

Worn plugs cause misfires.

However, Idle control valve is a common trouble area.

The idle valve receives it's signal from the ECU based on engine revs/water/air temp (plus likely few others).

The valve works by controlling air through bypass holes in the throttle body. If they block due to excess dirt (unlikely these days), or the control valve become sticky (more likely) Then the idle will be either too low, or too high, or even high enough to cause idle hunting up and down

I had the idle control valve

I had the idle control valve cleaned and it seems fine now. She starts immediately again and don't die on the road anymore. I hope it stays that way!

some details?

Thanks for updating on the solution - can you provide a few more details on how you cleaned it, what removal was necessary, and what you used?

I haven't looked at what the mech did, but the removed the 2 torx screws from the ICV and then spray some cleaner into the throttle and with his fingers pushed it back and forth ...looks like carb or brake cleaner he used.

Daihatsu YRV 1.0 Idle Problem

Hi, I have an YRV 1.0 with an idle problem, when i start the car the idle is very high, like if the gas pad is pressed, after that the idle slows downs and begins to go up and down, like is accelerating every 2 second or less.

i found a video on youtube of a car with the same issue.

Iacv valve is a common problem for cars. After a while they get sticky... Clean with carb cleaner or brake cleaner.. I will do this with my next service.
