sporttrack 1.6 ELi 1990 rad and gear problems..please Help

Forum:

I had a slipping clutch and a gearbox that was difficult to get into reverse.I was told that this could just be the clutch. I had the clutch done but now the radiator has been damaged and I still have the same problem with reverse. Does anyone have any ideas or is good at working on this type of vehicle near Cheltenham. Thank you.

why was the radiator damaged

why was the radiator damaged at the garage? and if they damaged it they should sort it, if they replaced the clutch how did they damage the rad as all you doo is remove the gearbox to get to the clutch plate, if reverse is still bad all I can say is the internals are getting very worn, is it noisy? does it change into reverse easier if the vehicle rolls back slightly while your shifting? ask someone else to drive it n see what they think it feels like.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

i had this sort of issue, but

i had this sort of issue, but turned out to be the selector fork.

regards the radiator, you'll need to replace it if to damaged, id personally see who fitted that clutch. see what they intend to do about it.

Rad.

Thankyou, I think he did repair from above rather than from below and he put a new radiator cap on...might have over pressured rad. I don't want to really get rid of car because its been so brilliant. He quoted for a new rad which I don't want to spend that in case the gear box has to be replaced..all getting a bit expensive!

How do you know the

How do you know the radiator's damaged, is something going wrong or does it just look damaged?

Re: difficulties getting into reverse. You can try briefly and slightly lifting the clutch whilst trying to engage reverse and this can help it into gear. You should be able to 'feel' something happening when you play with the clutch.

Thanks for reply. As far as I know the fins have been damaged...he put a new radiator cap on and I think this must have built up too much pressure.

Sorry to seem to ask the same

Sorry to seem to ask the same thing again, but what is leading you to think this? Visual inspection of the radiator fins being damaged? Or is there a problem when the car is running?
