Forum:

Hi folks. I'm new to the forum and have just become the owner of a slightly tatty but pretty solid 1999 Cuore. I once ownde a 2001 Y reg Cuore which was my first ever brand new car. I missed it greatly after I sold it and longed to have one again.
I had a VW Corrado until this week, but as a skint student couldn't afford to run it. As luck would have it I saw the Cuore for sale for £450. It's quite tatty really and the owner said he would let me have it for £350. When I told him I had to sell the Corrado first he became very interested. The Corrado needed some work doing to it but it runs ok, so we agreed on a P/X deal his Cuore and cash for the Corrado. He's happy as he's a VW nut and always liked the Corrados, and i'm happy as i'm once again the owner of one of the best cars i've owned, and i've owned nearly 40 cars so that's saying something I think.
I'm gonna tidy it up as best I can but I won't make it anything special looking. More important is it keeps running and stays reliable. I do wanna modify it eventually but nothing major. I will start asking for advice on that in time. For now though it's gonna get a service, get the rusty bits dealt with and guided through the winter months while I save some pennies for a few choice mods.
Anyway, that's a bit of waffley introduction I know. Sorry. Smile LOL

Hi Siobhan, Great another

Hi Siobhan,

Great another L701 Cuore owner on board!

Is yours 3 or 5 door?

Mine is 3 door silver, 1999 T reg. And the most basic spec, no power steering or electric windows. Didn't even have a digital clock although I have now fitted one from a later spec car.

I've just ordered some V-Maxx -35mm lowering springs for mine from germany on Ebay. Not bad at 90 Euro plus only 15 euro shipping to UK. So about £85 all in. Cheaper than I could find any spring kits in the UK!

May also buy some new rear shocks to fit at the same time, As when the car is cold for the first few miles you can hear a slight knocking from one of the rear shocks (until the damper oil gets warmer)

Shocks are only about £30 each!

I also have removed the wheel trims and fitted chrome outer rings to the wheels. Photo are on here and on the Daihatsu performance enthusiasts facebook page.

Another job at some stage is to fit the Mira TR front bumper than I have got. It looks much more sporty, just needs respraying in silver.

Economy wise I could not be happier, Getting at least 50mpg average on a tankful everytime. Have even seen 58mpg on a long steady motorway drive, keeping the speed down to 60mph.
My tyres are crappy Chinese old budgets, and nearly worn out now. So plan to buy the new Yokohama Bluearth eco tyres next payday. They could well boost economy enough to hit 60mpg on my next eco run!

Cheers

Hi there. Yeah mine is a 3

Hi there. Yeah mine is a 3 door also. It is white with rusty bits here and there, but that'll get sorted soon. It's not gonna look pretty, just want it to stay solid. Mine is also the most basic pec which I prefer as there's less to go wrong. I'd be interested in the springs you got as there isn't a lot listed for these cars. eibach do some but they only list rear springs which seems odd.

There is a company in Japan called Take Off that used to list loads of parts for them but they seem to have dropped them off the products list, despite still doing stuff for older models Beeehttp://www.k-takeoff.com/index2.html Here's a link anyway as I dare say there's parts that will fit, it'll just take some research finding out which ones.

As long as my car stays solid i'm happy for it to look a bit "ratty", i'm more interested in trying to increase its performance eventually. Hopefully i'll achieve this without harming its fuel economy too much but we'll see.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_ED-LtpAZ8&list=FLYQoqbThoUg4GhChZlwd3PA&index=1&feature=plpp_video Dunno if you've seen this vid, there's 3 of them in total. It's an Aussie bunch and the modify one quite well. They turbo it but don't give that much detail on the parts, i'm hoping to find out more to see if it's possible cheaply and easily. If not then i'll be considering putting bike carbs on mine one day. I think the noise from the engine would be immense, and could scare other road users!! Wink LOL.

Anyway, I hope to see more from your project and look forward to trying to mod my baby.
