2000 Cuore

Forum:

Good Morning!

I am the proud new owner of the above mentioned car and am hoping for a bit of advice. I'm an American serviceman new to the UK and would like to add a bit of performance and perhaps improve the ride of my 2000 Cuore. It runs great and is in really solid shape.

Any information on parts (part#, manufacturer, etc) would be greatly appreciated. I have a full garage at my disposal and can also order parts from the states relatively cheaply.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Performance engine parts

Hi, Performance engine parts are basically not available, And you are not really going to get anymore power from it without fitting a custom designed turbocharged setup, or I guess a nitrous oxide kit would probably be the easiest way of guaranteed extra power!

A exhaust system could be made on the car easily, but again I don't think you would gain any BHP, just some noise! Could always remove the centre silencer box and replace it with straight pipe if you just wanted a bit more noise.

Suspension is easy...Lowered spring kits are available in a few brands (Although usually not in stock for next day delivery), -30mm to -35mm seems to be most common height drop. Replacement Shock absorbers are also very cheap, Either in standard spec oil type, or slightly uprated oil/gas charged versions.

I would not like to comment on the ride quality as I am yet to fit sports springs myself (ordered recently not recieved yet), I am certainly going to be keeping standard spec shocks as I imagine lowered springs and firmer shocks with such a lightweight car woudl be a terrible ride quality on most roads!

Wheels are again quite easy as the fitment is a common 4/100 stud pattern. Although you can't go too wide or tall.

Anything you may need I can maybe help with, Got quite a few contacts in the motor trade.

Thanks

Thank you for the response. I was finding out the same thing on my own, that hi performance engine parts aren't available. Such a shame, they are such fun little cars.

I don't really want to lower it or go to a firmer shock, but would like to possibly replace what it has with something slightly uprated. What would you recommend? Any particular manufacturer/part #/or spec that I should look for would be great.

Also, how about OEM parts? Where would you recommend purchasing them from? Thanks again for all of your help.

Cheers,

Jason

There are quite a few brands.

There are quite a few brands. KYB, Monroe, Bilstein, SACHS/Boge

KYB oil shocks are the ones that are best value and will retain a factory ride. KYB oil/gas "Excel-G" charged are usually about 20% firmer.

All are meant to be factory standard replacement, But any that contain gas tend to be slightly firmer than a oil only shock.

Many parts are available in the aftermarket, Some stuff will be Daihatsu dealers only.

The 102bhp 1.3i K3-VE2 from

The 102bhp 1.3i K3-VE2 from the Sirion, and even the 130bhp K3-VE3 Turbo engine from the YRV all fit straight into the L701 Cuore, They all share the same engine subframe mounting.

This is the way to exciting power/weight ratio!

That video is Freakin

That video is Freakin Awesome!

Nice vid on engine transplants. Bet you are now wanting to do the same on your Cuore? Wink

Ha, Am tempted to! Probably

Ha, Am tempted to!

Probably when mine gets a bit tatty I will buy another Cuore that's a few years younger (like a 2002 or 03), then strip my existing one out and convert it into K3 Engine.

Motor swap

OOO, now you guys have me hooked. I have got to get one of those engines!

Also, thanks a lot for the info on the suspension. I think I'll try and search out some wheels/tires first since I think the suspension is fine...it just rides like a Cuore...

Thanks again!

Tempting but....

Ooooohhh now that is tempting. But i'm sooo in love with the sound of the 3 pot engine. Would the turbo 3 pot out of the Boon(Sirion) x4 from Japan go straight in like that I wonder? Hmmmmm What to do, what to do? Smile

The sirion (Storia) X4 engine

The sirion (Storia) X4 engine is a 700cc turbo engine. The Sirion (boon) engine is a 1 litre? Turbo engine. You should go for a 1.3 litre K3-VET engine Wink basically the same 1.3 engine they transplanted with on the video but with the turbo etc.. Smile

Hmmmm?

Is that the same engine in the YRV turbo then? I dare say they're more widely available over here anyway. Just need a manual box and a remap I assume. The Boon X4 engine is 936cc and turbo'd. About 133bhp from what I read on the Daihatsu website. Can't imagine it would be simple or cheap to get an engine imported. I just like the 3 cylinder sound. If money was no object then i'd get my own engine modded or get 1 litre the engine out of the last Sirion and get that turbo'd. I know there's a supercharger kit for that engine as it's popular with Aygo owners and I dare say mounting that engine in the Cuore shouldn't pose as too much of a problem. I'd even like to put bike carbs on one and get some head work done, imagine the induction noise!!! Smile

DOH!!

The Boon X4 engine is actually a 4 pot. Silly me. Wink LOL

If you are a 3 cylinder

If you are a 3 cylinder addict like me, Then you need a CB80 from the GTti!

Although fitting would not be easy. All the mounts are wrong.

Really, The only easy route for big performance is a K3.

Quite a few in Malaysia are running the YRV turbo engine (With autobox) in Perodua Kelisa's , same car as a Cuore.

They are lucky as they get many "front cuts" sent from japan to malayisa so sourcing good engines is quite easy for them.

MMMmmmm Nice

I think i'm about sold. Would the subframe and stuff just transfer over like the Sirion stuff then if I found a YRV donor? I'd have to fit a manual box though, I assume a Sirion box will go on. I wouldn't wanna try the Cuore box with that power unless it's known to be able to take it. Of course there'd be ecu issues to sort and suitable clocks needing fitting. But i'm more tempted than before. Need money first though. LOL

Yes you need a Sirion or YRV

Yes you need a Sirion or YRV K3 series manual box with clutch. The cuore box won't bolt up to the K3's, And the Cuore clutch is puny and wont hold the torque.

And full engine wiring harness and the ECU.

So really, You need to buy a whole donor car for any real chance of a trouble free conversion. You can pickup 1.3i Sirions for under £1000, Not so cheap though finding a complete YRV Turbo.

Sirion or YRV are the same in terms of the engine subframe / front suspension mounting.

The Sirion or YRV clocks fit into the Cuore just fine.

Cheers ta :-)

Cool. Well i'll bare all this in mind if I find myself with the funds and the time to do such a conversion. Quite like the idea of embarrasing some so called "hot hatches" and possibly more with a tatty little cuore!! Biggrin LOL

Now 200bhp in my YRV Turbo

Now 200bhp in my YRV Turbo would be nice Smile

Have a FMIC to fit next on my car, but also thinking about a TD04 turbo and getting the unichip remapped Smile hoping to reach this magic mark with my car Wink

Yeah it's easy to make that

Yeah it's easy to make that sort of power once a larger turbo goes on.

The standard one is way too small. Is only used for good bottom end response with the auto gearbox.

Might be worth thinking about the turbo from a Mazda 323 turbo, as its a 1.6 engine.

I think a TD04 would be bit too laggy
