Daihatsu Coure real world MPG

Forum:

Hello all

I'm new here, I'm looking at getting an economical car for my 37 mile daily commute on mainly M6 and major A roads and the 1.0 EL daihatsu cuore fits the bill for purchase and insurance costs.

However I wanted to double check the mpg is as good as the official figures or close enough? (Particularly interested in motorway figures)

So are there any cuore owners on here that can offer advice?

Thanks in advance
Phil

I find that they are better

I find that they are better than the figures!

I have a 1999 Cuore 3 door.

Driving normally on mixed roads including towns, the car always returns a average of 50mpg.

One tankful of driving recently, consisted of nearly 200 miles (half a tank) of steady cruising at 55-60mpg, plus a few days of normal mixed driving, and the average for that tankful was 59mpg!

I certainly think if you were to do a 300-400 mile drive in one go at a steay cruising speed you would be seeing 65mpg.

I don't often drive along the motorway at 70mph sustained. It does cope fine at motorway speeds (although you do notice sidewind quite a bit in them)...but I prefer to plod along at 60-65mph on the motorway, just for economy and less revs.

60mph in 5th gear is 3000rpm

For the money you can buy them for, You will be hard pushed to find anything else as cheap to run!

What about the Daihatsu

What about the Daihatsu Charade?

Again a 1 litre car and a bit more modern. Reputive to get 58MPG.

'12' Plate Mazda MX-5 2.0 litre NC 3.5 Venture Roadster 160BHP
'15' Plate SEAT LEON 184 FR TDI. 240BHP/500nm Torque.
Past: '53' Plate Yellow YRV Turbo Approx. 150BHP

They are more certainly much

They are more certainly much more refined, but to drive they feel so much like a granny car!

Way too soft suspension and over light steering to have fun or confidence on twisty roads, Wheras the Cuore can be thrown around something crazy, like a old Mini Cooper!

If I ever get a newer Charade again, then the suspension would be a priority to stiffen/lower.

Cheers

Cheers for the info. That's just what I wanted to hear.

Nothing against the charade but the cuore styling is just more to my taste.

It's going to be tricky to keep it standard as I've got a few ideas already.
