i bought a charade over a year ago as a stop gap car (couldn't resist as 18 years old with only 14k on the clock £400 and practically mint) as i normally prefer to own user friendly classics but the funny thing is i have grown to like the charade for its basic function and impeccable reliability as a "car" and so have kept it much longer than planned and now have no intention of selling it in the foreseeable future as it would be very hard to replace or to find such good value pro rata etc so want to improve the vehicle with one simple mod...

one thing that niggles me is that i believe because it is a "povo" spec cxi model the overdrive wasn't fitted.... is that true?
there is a screw to blank off where the overdrive button is on the gear shift lever and i wondered if by chance the wiring loom etc to make it work is within the car already and all i need is to replace the screw with a buttom off a say a scrap charade that does have over drive?
fingers crossed but i doubt it would be that simple...
the car is great around town which is it's main function work and back but now and then i need to do the odd long journey & fuel consumption drops off dramatically when it's pushed on motorways.
