Well ive been trying to reply for 2 days, but all the site would let me do is edit posts!
Anyway the Red 1 was a complete shed! Drivers side had a deep key scratch all the way down, the bonnet was held shut with a bit of a coat hanger and the passenger window had clearly been smashed at some point as there was brown tape marks all around the door and window seals and the headlights looked like they had been sand blasted!
90% of the cars he had in stock were all damaged on at least 1 panel. A transported had just dropped off 2 more cars, both damaged.
I wouldnt have paid £600 for it let alone the £1390 he had it advertised at!
Anyway I'm hoping to get across and have a look at this silver one. A little newer, and apart from the seats being a bit filthy, it looks ok.

It depends on which model of
It depends on which model of YRV?
4trak? f-speed? Radical? Radical 2? Premium? Turbo 130?
On the turbo I have had the following done:
- Rear Anti-Roll Bar brackets replaced due to originals snapping (After market fitted by Daihatsu UK)
- Replaced the Water Pump. Original one was starting to leak.
- Leaking panoramic glass roof, due to replacement windscreen not fitted properly.
- Had both sills (front and back) welded due to rust and rot coming in.
Things to watch out for on the YRV Turbo 130 (And some other models):
- Original Y-Shaped exhaust non-stainless system rots
- Auto-box (Something on the F-Speed model also) is prone to failure due to lack of servicing, ATF and ATF filter needs to be replaced every 6 years (Some say ealrlier if driving the car hard). Unfortunately both garages and owners are un-aware of this as its not on the service schedule (Only mentioned in back of owners hand book). signs of this are, flashing 'D4' light on start up and set off, to crunching of the actual box and un-willingness of auto gear changes.
- Window switches on the drivers door wearing out and failling (All Models).
- Water leaks from models that have the glass panoramic roof (Turbo, Premium).
- Rear arch and under sill rust (Especially with models fitted with sill covers).
- Petrol filler pipe getting excessively rusty and rotting.
Over all a good car, make sure you get a good model. Basic models like the Radical and Radical 2 do not have Air -Con. So if going for a manual model aim for a Premium. Or if you want permanent 4-wheel drive then the 4trak.
If looking for an automatic then the F-Speed is a good car (84 BHP), but if after something with a bit more go then opt for the Turbo 130 (130 Bhp). Both have the steer-shift mode for manually shifting the 4 speed gearbox using buttons on the steering wheel. Also both only in 2 wheel front wheel drive.
Servicing: all but the Turbo have a 12 month servicing interal (Turbo is 6 months, oil change and major). The K3-VE and K3-VET engines ( all 1.3 models) have a chain fro the cambelt. All 1.0 litre engines use a standard belt.
Hope this helps?

Thanks for the info
Thats a great help jpor. Its a 1.3 premium I've got my eye on at the minute (as the missis wouldn't be happy about me getting yet another turbo car) only 60k on the clock, but short MOT so I'd want 12 months putting on it before I have it.
Its not got the optional panoramic roof, so no worries with that. I'll make sure to have a good look at the sills and rear arches.
Do you know at what, if any, service time the cam chain should be changed at? I know some cars used to be 100k and others are ment to last the lifetime of the engine.
Thanks
Paul
Umm.. No panaromic glass roof
Umm.. No panaromic glass roof then it's not a premium
As far as I am aware the Premium YRV came with the Panoramic roof as standard (Same as the Turbo model). Have seen YRVs with the claimed 'Premium' name advertised without a roof and when you look they arn't a Premium. Do you have a link to the car you have seen?
Have a look on autotrader (Use the national search as there are only 12 YRVs for sale), there is a nice Premium for sale with the added optional Front fog lamps (Only the Turbo got these as a standard fit) with 73K on the clock for £1K. This has the Panoramic glass roof.
The Turbo YRV is basically the 1.3 16v Dynamic Variable Valve Timing engine found on the other 1.3 Cars but with the Turbo and auto-box. I use mine as a run-a-bout.
As for the Cam Chains, they are supposed to be for the life of the car. Although you can get chain rattle. Technically like any other car, if it aint been serviced properly with oil etc... then this is something to look out on. So basically worth getting a car with a good to excellent service history if you can.

I've just noticed on autotrader its listed at (Premium Pack)
How do you rate the Auto box on the Turbo?
Looks okay. Although I am
Looks okay. Although I am wondering if this car has been registered in the UK as a premium by mistake?
Still think its pricey. Does it have a full service history?
The auto box on the turbo is good, but it's the cars Achilles heal. Also as Daihatsu UK only imported 210 YRV Turbos and the slight diferences on parts compared to the standard YRV this could be a risky venture if you don't get a good example.

Ok so this should now work..
Ok so this should now work.. fingers crossed
I went and had a look at the Red YRV on Friday, wish I'd stayed at home.
From the back the car looked pretty good, sadly the drivers side had been badly keyed, right down to the metal.
The bonnet was being held down by a piece of wire coat hanger
The headlights looked like they had been sand blasted
Passenger door had clearly been smashed recently, as there was brown tape marks all around the window and door seal where a bag had been taped in place to stop water coming in.
I didnt look any closer, but I'm sure the other panels and interior would have also been in a poor state. 95% of the cars he had for sale were damaged on at least 1 panel. He had 2 more cars delivered on a transporter as I was leaving, and again they both had accident damage!
Theres a silver 04 plate that Ive seen on ebay/autotrader for £1094, taxed until may with 74k on the clock. Its got the optional bump strips and looks to have reverse parking sensors too.
It looks pretty clean in the pictures apart from the interior, he has said he will put a fresh MOT on the car and get it fully valleted inside and out for £1200. Not too fussy that the insides a bit filthy, got 2 dogs of my own, so they'll soon cover it in mud, plus ive got a decent carpet cleaner to shampoo the seats with.
I'm going to try for £1100 with tax chucked in, but it seems pretty cheap for a 04 plate anyway.
I bought that one!!
I went to look at it in the snow... and bought it!
The scratch didn't bother me, I call it a go faster stripe. The headlights have just fogged, so a bit of tooth past (I'm told) or polish will clean them up like new. I didn't notice the window until later but it had been put right ok so nowt to worry about. I reckon the stereo had been nabbed off the forecourt because the auto trader add had a picture of a stereo in it. You won't have spotted the egg on the tyre wall either or the engine warning light! It was a bit warn out but when I looked at it the price was £990 which considering I've spent £32 on two tyres, £47 on a stereo and £60 on one oxy sensor (so far) and they should go for £1300 i thought it was ok bargain.
I was 2 weeks away from handing back a lease car so my need may have been greater! Oh, you may have spotted the comedy exhaust cover? Well that fell off in West Mids Safari Park last weekend.
Been having some problems
Been having some problems with the forum since it went down last week, think LuRcH has sorted it now. I've managed to edit the 1st post, but havent been able to reply to anything at all.
The red 1 was a heap of steaming turd.(see 1st post) Hopefully going to look at a silver 04 plate for £1100. Got to wait till the new year though as its now closed for crimbo!
Anyway thanks for the input fellas, much appreciated.
