Forum:
Hello all,
First of all, I would like to thank you for making this website. The answers provided by some of your members on other people's questions have proven to be very useful to me.
Now, my girlfriend owns a 1999 Daihatsu Sirion which has some idle problems.
Previously, when pressing the clutch whilst driving or in front of a traffic light it would go down in revs and stall completely.
I was able to narrow it down to the Idle Speed Control valve (thanks to your site). I replaced it with a cleaned and oiled second-hand part and also replaced the ISC gasket and the gasket inbetween the gas housing and the air intake manifold.
This made the problem disappear, or so I thought.
Here are my questions:
- When you start the car the revs will go up to around 1800/2000 rpm for a while, then go down to 900 rpm. Is this an automatic choke functionality?
- Sometimes, when the weather is cold and the engine is not yet up to operating temperature the idle speed will go down below 900 rpm, sometimes even 200 rpm, almost to the point of stalling. It scares the shit out of my girl. What might cause this to happen?
Thanks for your time!
I have the same car (/problem?)
Last year to past the test here inholland i had to buy me a lambda:( . I wasnt pleased with that because i knew that wasnt the main cause. It past the test though. I knew i had to change the pistonrings because of severe oil burning. I did that a month later. The oil consumption was solved. But still i had/have almost 1200 rpm at idle. And when its winter it starts at up to 2000 rpm. The latter is according to manual the first is not. Because i only do very short distances it is possible that the engine cant heat up proparly, and cannot adjust the fuel mixture fast enough. But to test that i have to make a very long trip on the highway.
And maybe my lambda still is faulty (its no original dealer lambda but just a universal Bosch). And maybe it got contaminated in those weeks before i changed the piston rings?
The only thing why im still looking for the cause of the 1200rpm at idle is my fuel consumption (av. 7,5).
The tps voltages are ok. A pity it cant be adjusted!
I heard that the ait sensor is very sensitive because the 1liter engine needs all the horsepower it got. Im going to test the resistance soon. Same goes for the coolant sensor.
But dont forget it can be a vacuum leak!!!
So if my engine was idling at 900 rpm. I would not check anything because it is perfectly normal to have 850+-50 and 1900 rpm.
Im curious about your findings Frits!
O yes my rpm drops when i put the lights on, the heating or airco. Then revs at 1000.
Greetings to you all and many thanks to this forum and its members,
Augie
Sorry i didnt see that you
Sorry i didnt see that you said 'below 900 to even stall' I had that many times when my car burned oil. But that was always my pvc who contaminated the idle control valve. But that isnt the case here?
Same Issue
Hey,
Sorry to drag up an old thread. But I am having the exact same problems. Does anyone have a manual or a link to one that I can buy? (need one before i can start)
Where is the idle sensor located? Also have to do the rings as well. ( going to try with the engine in place) Engine has done 135,000km
Car is 1999 sirion Engine is EJ-DE 1.0 auto
Thanks
