Broken oil dipstick 2001 1300 F-Speed

Well my dipstick has broken, with pull part out, but most of the long part in the hole. Stupid idea to have a completely plastic one.
Firstly, any clever ways of getting the long bit out without removing the sump?
Secondly, where can I get a new one?
As it's basically a Toyota 1300 VVTI engine, can I get a Toyota one instead; as used a lot on Yaris, etc...?

That's 2 dipsticks in as many weeks....BobF previously.

Part number 15301-97401-000 but superceeded by 15301-B1070. Never sure why they change the part number but assume its when they improve of modify it....makes sense.

Alot of parts are also Toyota and may be cheaper from Toyota dealerships, just leave off the dash and three zeros (-000) off the end.

To remove the broken off bit just unbolt the dipstick tube support bracket and twist and pull up the tube. May be best to replace the little O ring seal or a very light smear of high temperature sealant on replacement.

Dunno this engine, but I'm pretty sure that on my Daihatsu (Skywing, like CB23 Charade) the suggested break-and-drain method would NOT work.

I had flakes of varnish, bits of gasket and metallic sludge in my sump,which didn't come out with the drained oil.

The sump plug was retained by a captive nut with radial cuts in it. This acts as a strainer and sill to retain debris. All I'd have achieved with tweezers would have been to piss myself off, A LOT.

Your engine might be a better design, and if you can confirm, by re-assembling the bits, that youve got the whole thing, fair enough. I bet you'd have to remove the sump, though.

An alternative trick might be to fit a tube of suitable diameter (bit of TV aerial?, arrowshaft? drinking straw?) over the stump and draw it out. You might be able to crimp a metal tube/melt a plastic one a bit to grip the end of the stump, and/or pack it with something grippy and/or adhesive - heavy grease?,cord? aluminium foil? superglue?RTV silicone? Latter possibly favorite.

Is it necessary to replace the broken dipstick with an identical (plastic - ugh!) part?

My (steel) one is just a straight rod, and anything that fits (motorcycle spoke?), marked for level, would do. I've used a magnetic pickup tool in the dipstick hole on occaision because it provides some diagnostic information
