Hi,
Has anyone got any tips on replacing a clutch release bearing on a 1995 Sportrak?
I've previously changed one on a transverse engine, a lot easier!!
Is it necessary to remove the whole gearbox or can the release bearing be changed by just sliding the bell housing back??
Thanks for your help in advance!!!
Undo the front and reap
Undo the front and reap propshafts and let them hang on a piece of good rope, remove the gearstick, undo or disconnect the breather pipes, remove the top bolts from the bellhousing and check the thread size, screw in a couple of straight rods with the same threads tapped on the end.
Undo the bottom and starter bolts and remove the starter, fit another couple of rods into these holes, undo the crossmember and take the weight on a jack, slide the whole gearbox/transfer case rearwards until the mainshaft is clear of the clutch, then a few inches more. Remove the rubber gaitor from around the clutch actuation rod and fire a light in, slide the thrust bearing forwards and it will drop in the bellhousing, slide the new one on and rebuild.
Hi, Thanks very much. I will

Clutch
Hi,
I finally got around to dropping the gearbox off, only to find the Clutch release lever yoke had broken, snapping at the bolt hole! I am attemting to track one down at the moment. Any ideas where I could find one and/or why the original one failed?
Many thans in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Malcolm
Some were sourced from China
Some were sourced from China and fitted as original equipment, but most were changed either under warranty or when the vehicles were serviced. These units were prone to snapping due to inferior material being used, so I guess its just bad luck.
You can repair it if you can weld, you need to reinforce the hole and its surrounding areas, and the usual cause of breakage is incorrect adjustment.
