Fourtrak Swimming...

Forum:

Having been a Fourtrak owner for over a year now and having lurked on the forum for most of the time I figured I should join up and get involved. So here's to post one:

Paul at Atkinson Automotives fitted a snorkel to my F78 along with a bunch of other fixes and tweaks recently. I decided to give it a test out on a lane near me that I remember having some pretty deep and long puddles last year. Turns out that it's rained quite a lot since then and once I'd very much committed to a very long waterbound stretch (about 50m long) I discovered that it was very deep indeed, coming over my wingmirrors (it was only tyre deep last time)! The snorkel worked a treat and I just about managed to get out the other side, though traction was not at a premium (definitely had that sinking feeling the precedes a long walk of shame to the nearest tractor owner)!

Since then I've heard a distinct 'sloshing' when braking hard. Where could water be trapped inside the truck? Any ideas? I've done some wading before and never had this problem?

Any voids really, the usual

Any voids really, the usual places are the bellhousing as many have wading plugs, any of the lower chassis sections or crossmembers or even sills where the drain holes are blocked.

drive up a steep bank at

drive up a steep bank at various angles and leave it parked there Biggrin , where do you reckon the noise comes from/location?

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

I do have a steep bank to hand, will investigate on my return (currently in Brighton, truck in Devon). Thanks for the suggestions.

Just another thought, have

Just another thought, have you extended all the breathers for axles, gearbox/transfer case as they can fill if you hit water and they suddenly cool and contract, thus forming a vacuum and sucking water in and sloshing around.
