Seems I spoke to soon, I think my gerabox has gone :(

Forum:

Hi guys, I need some advice. I have done some research on here and I think my gearbox on my YRV turbo has gone. I was only out in it yesterday taking pics, then drove it to work fine, then on way home problem started....

It goes into 1st, and 2nd, then when it goes into third it revs up to 3.5k and beyond and there is barely any drive. There is no drive in 4th. This happens in auto mode and button mode. 1st and 2nd are ok. 3rd and 4th are the problem. Have checked oil and its good.

Any advice much appreciated.

What are my options? I know a f-speed box will fit, and I know another turbo box will fit but obviously this will cost a significant amount of money so would I be better saying goodbye and writing the car off? Go through insurance or put on ebay for breaking?

Really gutted about this

Thanks to anyone that can help

Damn, Yes once that's happens

Damn, Yes once that's happens the gearbox is doomed. Sorry to hear.

It's that 70-80+k mileage if not maintained throughout it's life and more often than not they fail.

Insuracne won't give you much, You are better off breaking the car yourself and selling the parts, if you have the space and time.

Thanks for getting back to

Thanks for getting back to me. Its what I thought. Totally gutted. Will prob list it on ebay and try sell the whole car

Sorry to read this also. The car looks really good in your last post.
Echo what others have said, the gearbox sounds FUBAR to me. Unfortunately owners are unaware of the gearbox oil and filter change schedule, as its not in the service schedule booklet to have the oil and filter changed every 6 years. Yet in the back of the drivers manual there is mention of this. Warning to all auto box owners to get this done as soon as possible and to keep up a good maintenance schedule on the auto box.

Needs changing every time the engine oil is changed in my opinion, Or at least once a year. 6 years is way too long.

I have a photo of a stripped down failed YRV Turbo gearbox I will post. You wil see how the filter is mainly unimortant compared to just having good fresh oil.

Here, Just look at the Gunk which has caused total failure. Once this has formed a oil or filter change won't clean that up. The key is not to let it form in the first place.

Great! Just need those

Great!

Just need those pictures as a way to make owners think on what needs to be done. Bit like the anti-cigarette ads and whats happens when you smoke too much Wink

Keep it!

Luke get a replacement Autobox. I would also speak to a local Auto transmission specialists too, not a repair garage. The parts that have failed may not be that expensive. Its a fine balance between parts, labour and refit for a repair, used box with refit costs and scrapping it. Getting a new car minus scrapping money may be about the same as costs in keeping and that may mean not having a Turbo and some other crappy car Wink

Nathan interesting pics. . .where did you find a damaged box to take them or you find them on the net?
