Hi from the other side of the Atlantic 1990 4x4 Hijet

Forum:

Hi, I'm located in Québec Canada, My passion is to restore old cars. My new challenge is to put back on track a 1990 4X4 Daihatsu Hijet Atrai (bus) with 660 EFI turbo engine.
Unfortunately i'm almost desperate cause it looks like as hard as it was to restore a 1915 Ford Model T.
Parts are hard to find and expensive, not many forums with few members.
I made a lot of searches and this forum looks like the best I found to get help to fix my Hijet.

I bought my Bus for cheap with a defective engine. I wanted to know if this Daihatsu model was popular in the UK?
Was the 660 efi turbo engine common in your country? Was this engine available in other Daihatsu models?

I'm at the beginning of this adventure with a lot of questions!!!
If I could get any help I would appreciate very much. Smile

Hello and Welcome.

To answer some of your questions:

Yes the Hi-jet was sold over here in the UK, but as far as I am aware we only had the latter 1.3 Litre non-Turbo engine variant.

As for Daihatsu vehicles running the 660Cc engine, the only other vehicle I'm aware of is the Mira Avanzato model. Which was a mini turbo city car which was only available in Japan, with some models in some countries having them imported under different badges. In the UK we only had 80 officially imported into the country and re-badged as the Daihatsu Cuore.

As for parts, then your best bet is to try and source them direct from Japan.

I have sent you a PM Wink

Best guys to ask about this with english as their first language are the guys on the minitrucktalk forum.

There are a fair few members with this sort of hijet model who you might be able to pick each others brains about, and they will have a better idea of parts in USA/Canada.
