Hi guys yet another post about my sportrak giving me grief 
I have just done a head gasket replacement new inlet and exhaust gaskets, water pump done etc once all back together had a hell of a time remembering where vacuum hoses went but finally sorted that out car idles at appox 850 and seems to rev freely and well but... When I tried taking up the road disaster no good at all car hesitates very badly almost stalling barely reeves through gears almost feels like when you run out of fuel and its start to cough... Barley managed 20mph ydai bad times need car fixed asap for work so go really do with some help on this one!!
Inlet manifold gasket ?
If you have an air leak on the inlet manifold, you get allsorts of rough running probs. You might have tweaked the mixture screw on the carb to get it to tick over ok, but this all goes to pot as soon as you open it up.
The old-fashioned way to check for leaks is to squirt easy start on the inlet manifold to head joint with the engine ticking over. When the engine note changes, the easy start has found the leak.
Don't do this on a stink hot engine after a run without a big fire extinguisher to hand !

Thanks for the reply ill give it a go but only just replaced the inlet manifold gasket when i changed head gasket and to ensure and good seal the inltet and head faces were cleaned with scrapper and some wet & dry so seems unlikely to be an issue, but then again you never know...
