Hi all,
My new sporty seems to struggle to idle unless I have the idle adjust turned up enough to allow it to sit at 1500. If I adjust below that it's very rough and will eventually die.
After doing a few searches, I looked under the air filter and found that the return torsion spring on the rod that controls the butterfly valve (choke valve?) beneath is a little weak and I'm not convinced that it is holding the valve shut well enough.
Could this be the source of the problem? If so what's my best option?
Its a carb sporty, H reg.
All help gratefully received.

OK - getting somewhere (I think). I noticed the rad dripping. Previous owner recently replaced the water pump and the coolant levels were too high. Drained some off and the rad stopped dripping.
The idle seemed to be easier to drop down with idle screw and a bit more stable (could just be my imagination or coincidence).
Now the revs will stabilise at about 1100, but if I give it a quick blip of throttle it rises then drops all the way down and dies? Does that help anyone narrow down the problem for me?

My throttle positioner looks to have seen better days, and I'm wondering if this is the source of the problem, allowing the snap shut of the throttle and hence the dying off.
Check vacuum hoses Mines efi
Check vacuum hoses Mines efi system had similar problem one of vacuum hoses dropped of bottom of dizzy idle at 500 rpm on standard idle screw setting when revs were applied it would die straight after throttle releases... Mines still playing up though faulty coolant temp sensor web I tried to remove broke off in head
