Forum:
hey there, can anyone help?i have a fourtrak on a s reg,it's done 67k and when you put the foot down and turbo kick's in there is black smoke,if you drive it carefully it does not do this. it's only under hard acceleration.as anyone got any solutions, cheers.
Black smoke.
Worn injectors.
excess fuel being pumped in,
excess fuel being pumped in, unburnt fuel coming out...black, not an issue, I dare say you may not drive it hard enough from time to time to clean it out, all the build up of soot n muck etc, but its typical diesal behavior, there aren't many diesal engines out there that dont cough out black smoke under hard acceleration, its the nature of the beast.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

It could be a combination of things, so I would suggest the following:
Put some fuel system cleaner into the fuel and run this through.
Periodically when it is fully warm you give it full throttle up to the red line; through the gears such as when going up a slip road to enter a motorway or dual carriageway as this removes all the soot from the exhaust.
If you do a lot of slow town work then give it a 20 mile blast every month, preferably down a motorway.
