Cutting out and losing power

Forum:

Again more problems. I'm beginning to wonder why I even bother.
Started yesterday going out on the motorway done a 15 mile trip no problem still overheating over the 60 mark but I was happy ish plodding along . and on the way bk it just starts to lose power and when I actually escape the motorway by the skin of my teeth and stop it just stalled and stops almost before rolling stop. I managed to get bk In 1 peice and so did my fourtrak stopping when I felt the fourtraks urge to give up a few times within a mile of my destination . I had to wonder if it was the overheating problem iv been experiencing through my time of having the truck . It's very hot and the problems r occurring is it getting to hot . And it doesn't sound right . Like my piston rings or gone r something . Fuel delivery is good to the pump and injectors . Checked . Oil is ok. Sound wise . Doesn't sound healthy. Getting too hot sounding like a bag a nuts without giving me the right reading. I am very confused very. And I'm beginning to wonder why i bother.

Blown cylinder head.

Probably blown a hole through the cylinder head.
Has the radiator lost coolant Unknw Don't check the overflow reservoir. When cold remove the radiator cap and take a look if the radiator is full of coolant. Wink

It doesn't lose no water or

It doesn't lose no water or oil at all . Thermostats been removed and iv flushed and flushed near enough everytime I use it. I have a feel round the pipes now and again and they feel as tho there's crap in there as it is almost solid and can feel something in the the water matrix pipes like its moving around and working its way round the matrix and escaping out the pipes . I will be removing these today a looking.

Much appreciated for every advice and reply.

I can strip an engine all day but I'd rather do the job first time everytime.

did you remove the thermostat

did you remove the thermostat and replace it with another correct one? if so, on removing the thermostat did it come out in complete form? they have a habit/can break apart and leave a chunk behind to float around the system. On draining and refilling with coolant did you massagae/squeeze all water hoses to prevent air locks? as thats a quick way of overheating an engine. Did you remove the water pump? to make sure impeller and everything turns all correctly and its doing its job. Forget the heater matrix for a minute, take the pipes off at the bulk head and reroute the one pipe that goes from the pump to matrix and connect it straight back onto the matrix return near the pump, totally bypassing the cab heater system, then refill and run the car about (you dont need heat at the minute anyway) doo this and see what happens.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Blocked Radiator

I had similar issues with my Sportrak, fine on local journeys but over 60mph temp went sky high. Flushed rad few times n tried rad weld but no joy. Turned out rad was blocked in the middle, bought a second hand rad for £12 and cured problem. Upgraded to a recon one for £60 off eBay just to be on safe side though

Is the viscous fan locking

Is the viscous fan locking up? It goes round anyway, but only pulls air through when locked.

On the dieing front, my 1st port of call would be fuel. Either filter, or an actual blockage. Does she start straight up after? if so, could be a blockage.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
