I've just bought a J Reg 2.8 TDX, 130k on the clock, I gave £2300 for it - Bargain right?
Then I find it needs a new front prop, new viscous fan, new power steering pump, a new leaf spring, and its throwing oil up somewhere, not sure where yet. Not such a bargain now, but once all the works done, it will still have been a good price.
A sticker under the hood says the belts were changed at 74k, so by rights it needs new belts (every 60000 according to the labels on the engine). A mate of mine says he's never known one go, and even if it were to go, it would only bend rods, which are easy to replace. He does know his stuff, but it's always good to get a second opinion. What does anyone else think, should I have my belts changed, or leave it?

If your going to have to do the work you mentioned you might as well do the belt to..its not that hard to do either...then you will have peace of mind knowing its been done.
Dont forget that springs need done as a pair otherwise the vehicle will be unbalanced.
