Newbie Sirion owner

Howdy
After many years, and many distractions, I've finally got my hands on a Daihatsu - a 1998 Sirion+ 1.0 manual with rusty arches and some interesting features...

(apols for the pic size - that's straight from Facebook)

Believe it or not, this is after I removed some of the artwork!

I'm going to need help with a few things. Firstly, third gear synchromesh is a bit iffy. It hasn't gone entirely, but it doesn't like to be hurried. Checking the oil level seems a sensible plan. Any tips and what cog juice do they like?

Secondly, corrosion. The rear arches are full of it and I'm slightly worried about removing the sill covers. Can you get any body parts? I'm hoping to salvage the rear arches - they've not fallen apart yet but surface corrosion is everywhere. The front arches are starting to go too.

I absolutely love it though. More artwork will be removed and hopefully it'll settle down to be a lovely daily motor.

In the hope that it may

In the hope that it may actually generate some comments, have a more recent pic of my Sirion.

Arches have been 'bodged' back to some sort of health. That'll do for winter, but welding will be required at some point.

This is before I tackled the arches.

It's doing 49mpg and I love it. More details at my Blog if you're interested - www.classichub.wordpress.com

Land-crab

Dollywobbler,

Welcome to the hive. Nice land-crab.

Read your blog thing too. Good. I have never heard of a Daihatsu Campagna, never mind seen one or a picture. Yes you are correct that Daihatsu was the first Japanese car importer. Not a lot of people know that.

Banksy

Dollywobbler,

Are they "Banksys" on your land-crab?

Sadly not or it'd push the value up a bit! It was covered in marker pen drawings of wacky races characters for a banger rally - it went to Nice, France and back in August with the previous owner. I've since removed most of them but there's still some odd bird thing on the roof, and Muttley on the rear wing.

Interestingly decorated

Interestingly decorated Sirion dollywobbler (saw more pictures of it over on Autoshite). The 2 cars in your signature aren't far from the line-up I'd love to have. I have a Charade rather than a Sirion, but I am trying to save money for, and justify getting a 2CV. Tried a couple of years ago but it failed dismally...

The bonnet is now de-lettered

The bonnet is now de-lettered too. Have driven over 600 miles in it this week. Love it. Crashy ride gets a bit tedious after a while though. Not a problem I have in the 2CV!

Good luck in your search. Sadly they're not cheap these days. Some restored cars are a joke, others are worryingly rotten. Join the club and do your homework. Wink
