1996 Fourtrack with strange starting problem. If it's been standing for about 12 hrs it will start, but if switched off it won't start again. It will attempt to start twice, but will cut out straight away, and after those two attempts it won't start at all (until left for another 12 hrs etc)
When running the engine sounds good and there doesn't seem to be smoke emissions. Anyone any ideas?
My first thought would be an
My first thought would be an air leak somewhere, that self-bleeds if left long enough. Check the fuel lines and if there's a primer bulb, check that for leaks. Sorry - I'm into little Daihatsus so don't have much Fourtrak experience.

so its likely something to be affected by heat, check the stop solonoid on the fuel pump is lifting to allow fuel through.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Begin at the beginning, it needs fuel and air to run, and heat from the glowplugs to start it.
Instead of starting it when it is cold, pump the fuel primer and check the resistance, if the resistance is low or non existent then it is a fuel supply problem.
Begin with the fuel filter, replace this and check for water content, prime the system, if it starts first time then it is fuel. Other possibles are corroded fuel pipes with air leaking in, non return valve in fuel filter head failed, and these will let the fuel run back to tank over a period of time and it is trying to self prime from the tank which will flatten the battery before it primes and starts.
It may be the fuel pick up pipe in the tank, if this is perforated through corrosion it will pick up air as well as fuel, test by filling the fuel tank to the brim and if it starts and runs fine then there is your problem
Glowplugs: if one is faulty it will make it difficult to start, check they are getting power and they come in two different voltages, 7.2 volts and 7 volts from memory, measure the resistance of each which should be about 1.2 ohms.
If it is getting fuel to and from the filter, and the glow plugs work fine then it only leaves the fuel shut off solenoid.
Check that the glowplugs are getting voltage by measuring at the glow plug rail, the relays are prone on these and can be troublesome. If one is faulty then change them all for reliability.
Peculiar starting, AnjouTDX Fourtrack (Rocky)
Many thanks for those helpful comments. After investigating further I suspect the fuel-filter head. Phew!,much relief.
