New Sirion 1.3 sx owner - 2006

Forum:

Hi There,

I have been a long time admirer of the new sirion after seeing loads of them when on holiday in Malta.

Anyway, these weekend I finally got the one I wanted

A 2006 1.3sx with optional daihatsu 16" alloys in black Smile

I have a few questions which I hope some of you on here can help with -

There is a slight shudder when moving off in 1st when the car is stone cold (goes away quickly) any ideas?

What gearbox oil should I use

Is there a pollen filter in the car? If so where?

Where can I get hold of momo leather steering wheel and gearknob as fitted to the boon custom?

Does anyone have a spare rear parking sensor? (one of mine is chipped)

Think thats about it for now!

All help much appreciated

Alan

2006 Sirion 1.3sx

Alan aka Yellowmitch,

Welcome to the group. My first Sirion was when I lived abroad and it was a 1.3sx and it was a very rapid and capable car. I liked it so much I made sure my next one was the 1.5sx, and I am not disappointed with the 2008 one I have now in the UK.

Comparing acceleration between the two I would think there would be nothing in it - the 1.3 is very fast off the line. However where the 1.5 wins out is torque, which gives it more puff up hills and when the air-con kicks in I barely feel the loss of power. You have got a good car though and the engines are awesome and very strong. Incidentally the later 1.3 engine has the same cylinder head as the 1.5. I guess that would include yours.

Anyway, now the questions.

The shudder thing I am not sure but on my wife’s car, a Materia with the same running gear, I too get a very slight shudder when pulling away cold. Not sure what it is but I suspect it is related to previous owner clutch abuse. As for fixing it I am just watching and waiting because it isn't causing any grief. I have never heard of any endemic clutch problems with Sirions.

Gearbox oil is whatever the handbook recommends. I am crook with a man-flu right now and don’t feel like going outside in my bathrobe to check. I changed mine earlier this year and there is a knack to getting it done without losing 50% of the oil. Use a sufficiently long piece of garden hose to poke into the filler hole and then stick a funnel in the top of the hose and then fill ‘er up. A bit like a colonic-irrigation technique I guess - so I hear.

Pollen filters. Yeh this one is tricky. I am not actually interested in fitting one but I have looked for one. The car I had abroad mentioned a slot for one under the glove-box but not fitted for that market. The current Sirion has no mention in the handbook and I have done an extensive search out of curiosity and I don’t see a slot for one. If you find a slot for one please tell me where it is.

The rest of the questions I have no idea of an answer. The group will, I am sure, jump in and add some value.

Regards

Phil
