Sirion 2007

Forum:

My 2007 Sirion is causing me concern, as I have a constant knocking sound from the - Suspect - suspension. despite three garage visits and a change of anti-roll bar bushes, the knocking persists. There does not appear to be anything else amiss on the suspension .
Anyone with the same problem.
The car has passed the MoT tests with flying colours, but I am not happy about the Knock.
advice welcomed Major.

Any advice on a knocking sound which seems to be a suspension related problem, but despite three inspections by my garage nothing appears to be wrong. The anti-roll bar bushes were changed , but the knocking persists ! Anyone had a similer problem, or can offer advice.
Second problem. Clicking sound from rear offside wheel.Cause was atributed to a brake shoe spring catching the drum.Problem was Has anyone had the same basiic problem Unknw cured but it has now returned.

Sirion 2005 suspension knock

This is probably too late for Major's post but I had a similar problem with a light rattle/knock that seemed to come from the suspension. I spent ages trying to sort it over the last 6 months and could not locate the source until today's MOT test. It passed but with an advisory that the drop links between the suspension arm and the antiroll bar had slight wear in the ball joints which causes a light knock - if left it would affect handling and would probably not pass the next MOT.
They explained that this is not easy to spot for us home mechanic amateurs because if we jack up the car the anti-roll bar twists and tightens the joints in the drop links, and if we drive it up on ramps the forward/rear weight balance change can sometimes have enough effect to again make everything seem solid. It's much easier to spot on their ramps, though I have to say that the movement was very small.
On my car (or more accurately my wife's car) the D-bushes on the antiroll bar were declared okay.
I now need to decide whether to buy parts for £40 and fix it myself or pay them about £150-£200 which they said could increase if the ball-joint nuts decide not to undo. Hmmmmm.

(I very much like the new shape Sirion)

Drop links

Blue print make pattern drop links for around £15 per side and these are available from any good motor factors. Fitting them is EASY. all you need once the wheel is off is 2 spanners (which themselves cold be bought for under a tenner)

If the nuts are seized on the drop links then cut them off with either an angle grinder or a hacksaw, after all they are destined for the bin anyway.

Do the job yourself and you will have good change from £50

As an example, I have decided to dinitrol my new shape sirion and have stripped all the exhaust, tank, filler neck, wheel arch liner, side skirts etc out of it in 2 hours. They are easy to work on.

P.s. Bob, I like the new shape sirion too!
