Forum:
Hi lads and ladies I've just acquired my third four track its a 93 swb independent 2.8 td and this one has a few issues some of you may have seen before
4wd refuses to engage I've done a bit of reading here last night and will check my auto front hubs at the next visit to ny shed
A little tin worn here and there its all fairly minor someone has repaired the drivers side inner sill before and it's a bit of a patch job so that's gotta go also on the drivers side floor at the cab mount its patchy and rear inner arch on one side has a small hole
Now to the main issue it has 123 thou miles and drives very tight bar this
At cold idle there is a total misfire on cyl 1 when it warms up its very slight only can be sensed on acceleration from idle for a split second but it appears a lot on the road when pulling from low revs in the higher gears its pretty fumy while warming up and I suspect the last owner hadn't crossed 35 mph in years it blew sOme serious black to the ground on its first few revs
I check tappett clearance visually this morning and its loose enough if not a little too loose and its defo number one as I loosened each injector in turn just after start up
Are there any known issues with these engines
I was gonna get a spare injector or swap about what I have to see if the miss moves with it after that its a badly seated valve or a ring or Conrod issue
Are gaskets readily available if needed there doesn't seem to be much listed except brakes and clutch at the motor factors
if its a continuous mis, like
if its a continuous mis, like you say, I'd be swopping injectors and be hoping that it didn't have water ingress at some point, rust on a fourtrak- well...yer they rust bad and once you see it appear its always worse than what it looks because they rot from the inside out. And as for 4wd the common issue, as can be found on this site is A: the auto hubs and B: the vacuum transfer box at fault, but if you have a manual box which is a million times more reliable then thats ok, I prefer manual transfer box and manual hubs, then if anything goes wrong its generally down to operator error, you'll find lots of info on the site about the vacuum issue as its been done to death.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Can see some evidence of
Can see some evidence of repair from years back on the front rail of the roof so maybe it has been rolled at some stage and had a little oil on top of the piston either way it will be repaired
free of charge

Got myself a replacment engine if needed yesterday and a full set of wide plastic arches can these be fitted successfully without drilling the big holes in the arches
Chrome door handles on this one too
Basically a second four track that was stolen and crashed is available to me
I'm also chasing the wide alloys of my last four track my mate now only uses on his farm so I sould have sweet looking one If I can get it all to come together
Are theRe any two tone red over silver four tracks or is it silver arches only
Got my engine swapped out
Got my engine swapped out easy enough job flying machine now
Also got my wheels blasted and resprayed silver
Freed up a siezed front caliper slide and adjusted up the rear brakes
For test
Gonna get the welding sorted next
Any go for test see if she passes
Might throw a coat of paint on it as I can do myself and its pretty straight body so no time wasted fillin dents
Giving up on tHe plastic arch idea might look good but it would just be a rust magnet I think
What would cause a low rumble in the drive at about 55 mph
Would a sized up uv joint in the rear drive do it havnt checked it yet but that's what comes to mind
fourtrak misfire
Try running it on neat injector cleaner works wonders. Injector cleaner in milk bottle , 2 short pipes to filter and return.
Sounds injector related, why
Sounds injector related, why replace, just have them refurbished or reconditioned by a diesel injection specialist, you should get all four done for the cost of one new injector.
