Cooling / heating

Forum:

Ok bought the car no thermostat fitted it never got hot only moved just off the stop. I fitted a thermostat it stayed at halfway.perfect Had a split pipe replaced it now it getting to hot.

Yesterday I removed the stat checked it worked and refitted it the correct way up refilled the system still over heating. I swapped the radiator cap from my old sportrak still the same problem. Although it don't look in great condition. I have just read a post on thermostat being different lengths, so now I'm thinking the one I had with the car when bought was wrong. I typed in the part number off the box into eBay it says it fits lots of daihatsu's including sportrak. The one I fitted many years ago to my first sportrak was a blue print one and that part number on eBay only says it fits the sportrak. I have also noticed the radiator is hot at the very top cold at the very bottom but is also cold all over the middle section with the fins even tho the gauge is at half way.

Any info what my next step should be.

You also need to clean your

You also need to clean your cooling system.

Drain by removing the bottom hose with the vehicle warm, and be careful not to scald yourself, refill through the radiator cap until it runs clean. make sure your heater temperature control is in the hot position.

Remove some of the pipes from the engine and flush through them, run until water runs clear, and remove at least one of the pipes running through the bulkhead to the heater matrix as these clog easily, and flush.

Refill with neat water and run up to temperature and drain as above, refill with neat water, repeat this until the drained water runs clear, it may take several attempts so spend the time and do it correctly.

Refill with neat water and radiator/cooling system cleaner and follow the instructions with the cleaner.

Drain and flush as above to remove all traces of the cleaner.

Refill with a 50/50 mix of anti freeze and water.
