Cheers Paul (or Pauls m8)your a gent.
I'm really pissed of with these sods.
Having 2 4traks is a real pain with the Gypos driving around in beaten up (and many, no doubt, unroadworthy) vehicles looking for a 'steal', forever pestering me to part company with one of them.
I've even put a sign in the one I'm refurbishing that 'This vehicle is not for sale', but some grimy scumbag still knocked on my door asking about it. Mentioning the sign, he said he couldn't read .... I suppose that goes for Income Tax forms too (but not Social Security benefits).
Oil pressure now reduced a little.
pikey"s
Nice one "rf"...glad to hear you haven"t blown a gasket!
Don"t wanna give too much away, but the dopey "stards didn"t clock the battery isolater and the anchor chain around my steering wheel!!!!
I used to remove the gearstick on my old Vauxhall !
Coming back to this, Doug, I remembered that I used to park my old Chevette (pause for laughs) in Southampton docks during the week, every week for a couple of years.
The gearlever is retained by a simple 'push and turn' bayonet fixing on that gearbox. I imagined some scumbag popping the bonnet (easily done with a long screwdriver), jumping the ignition and starting it, smashing the driver's window to get in, wrenching the steering lock, going to drive away, only to find a mucky, greasy hole where the gearstick should be, HEH HEH.
It's not that impossible to do the same with a 4trak. If, for example, you were going to Oz for a month and leaving your 4trak at the airport all that time, then you could drive down there without the rubber boot over the box (OK, it's a bit noisy). When you have parked, whip out the o-ring with a pair of circlip pliers and remove the gearlever. You will have to stash the gearlever somewhere on the vehicle, but any thief doesn't know where to find it or even if you have taken it with you. You could take the circlip and pliers though, which would make it tough for the thief to re-fit the gerlever if he did find it.
If the potential thief for my 'Shovitt' had obtained a spare gearlever from a scrapper in anticipation of taking my old car, then, at least I tried. Nice thing about 4trak gearlevers is that you don't find them on that many scrapyards !!
Huh, wot's all this 'preview comments' shows my post without any 'white space' ????
Quick Release Steering Wheel
First I'd like to apologise to you 'rf man'..I must admit I haven't logged on to this site since the 'diddies' did the dastardly to my old F75..Liked your story about the old 'Shovitt'..brings back memories of my old HB Viva (same running gear, I believe)..Wished I'd known about the bayonet gearlever then, would have prevented a TWOC on that old rustbucket, prob was my shotgun certificate was in the glove compartment (still there when recovered)the old bill went mad, threatened to take it away, etc...Ooer! Aha, the subject title..I'll explain if given room?..I worked in the heavy plant industry for some years..Amongst all the equipment I repaired and demonstrated the P&H 'All Terrain Crane' sticks in my mind? It had a forward control cab ie:for driving on roads to & from jobs..also a superstructure cab for use 'on site'..clever Germans gave it one steering wheel! Now F1 has adopted same principal..You arrived 'on site' removed the wheel, climbed up to the 'superstructure' lined up the splines on the steering shaft, let go of the quick release boss and hey presto you're driving around the site with all wheel steer, crab steer,4x4,etc..Car manufacturers take note..What a brilliant anti theft device!!!!! Again soz I didn't reply sooner?
