Does anyone know where to buy Sirion Mk1 brake drums?

Forum:

Hello, I have a Mk1 (2001) Sirion 1.3 (not the most exciting car in the world, but a real trooper!) and I decided recently to show it a bit of love and overhaul the brakes. However, I cannot get hold of drums anywhere for sensible money. The only reliable source I have found is a local dealer who can get them on special order for somewhere around £150 each! Ow! The last time I bought drums (for a Polo) I think they were around £15 each.
Does anyone know where I might be able to buy some new drums for less than 1/4 of the value of the car?! Wink
Thanks in advance.

Brake drums

You may well have already considered this but depending on the degree of scoring it is easy and cheap to have an engineering shop skim the drum surface on a lathe removing all or most of the damage. Obviously success depends on the extent of the damage and the thickness of the original material. A workshop I use here in Spain does a steady trade in such work including refacing discs. Not much help in the UK I appreciate but any capable engineer will be able to help.

Thanks David, I know of this

Thanks David, I know of this practice as I used to do it myself some 25 years ago when I started-out as an engineer! Wink I just wanted to try to find some new drums while they might still be available, since the Shitsu (as it is affectionately known!) has proved to be so supremely reliable over the last 3 1/2 years that I am sure I will keep it for some time to come and the drums seem to be the only service item that is very difficult to get hold of.

Good luck with the search, it

Good luck with the search, it's a shame that such good cars are increasingly poorly supported. We have a Fourtrak which is similarly reliable but I do wonder for how much longer parts will be easily available.
All the best.
